Defending the repair man who you are automatically assuming is a cowboy, whilst you can do that as soon as you mention the cost of doing it most people don't want to pay. They expect it to be done as part of the job and will gladly have you waste hours of your time for free but when you say it costs £30/hr or they can send it off to a data recovery company that'll charge £100s for 10/20/30GB recovery they don't want to know.
1) how did they manage to format it, and did they put windows back on?
2) it is possible to recover data for free

Has anyone asked for the' cowboys' to run data recovery? Perhaps you know something that we don't?0
