Hi all,
We have just moved into a house and bought a new dishwasher. However, i have started to notice bits of rust appearing on various metal ware, such as, cutlery and pots and pans. We are using dishwasher salt and glist 3-1 tablets. Does anyone else have this problem? and can someone shed some light as to why this is happening?

Not being funny, but our dishwasher manual states that if rust starts appearing your metal ware is not rust proof!
Make sure you open the dishwasher as soon as it finishes it's cycle. Leaving items in the dishwasher after the program has finished can cause problems.

Im sure its rust proof, its stainless steel and says suitable for dishwashers. One thing sometimes we do leave the stuff in the dishwasher after it finishes, sometimes overnight. Maybe thats it?0

If it rusts it can't be rust proof.
If it is rust proof it should not rust no matter how long you leave it in the machine.0 -
We're getting rust all over our baking trays and tins  . They have to be scrubbed before being used. They are the Wilko (cheap) own brand ones, that have been buying for donkeys and have never rusted. But I have to admit we aren't taking out as soon as the cycle finishes- so is our fault really.
We also bought some top notch stainless steel cutlery (as the 'Ikea quality' stuff can't take the heat and looks like Uri Geller has been for dinner) and noticed the care instructions making a point of ensuring they are removed as soon as the cycle is finished. If you didn't it would stain and you would have to use stainless steel polish to the stains off. Sure enough as we haven't stuck to the instructions......:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -
we had the same problem on our cutlery when i purchased them they said dishwash safe.
i called in to woolys and found some stainless steel sets for £4 reduced from £20, bargin of the month..0 -
I think my dishwasher works so hard getting the muck of that sometimes it takes some of the none stick off aswell so i don't put them in if i can help it. I have bought the expensive ones in the past and over time it does that to them aswell.
To clean my meat tins and my grill pan i scrape off as much as i can then put them on the hob and put an inch of hot water in them a a dash of fairy and boil. All the baked on stuff just falls off them just wash them in the sink it only takes seconds , you can do it while you are filling the dishwasher with the rest of the washing up. Then large meat tins don't fill the dishwasher up leaving you loads of room for other stuff.0 -
i found the non stick saucepans all went rusty around the rim
i invested in a set of stainless steel pans. no probs now0 -
I found halving the tablet helped with marks on cutlery - although the dishwasher is only an 8 place setting one.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0

Have you tried using different tablets? We used finish a while back and all our stuff was fine. I then bought Glist and it has made some of our tins and pans rust and has also smeared our glasses
. I'm not saying it is down to glist I just feel ours was.
