ProSearch have sent me latter stating that my dead father has 37 Shell shares that I can claim.
Prosearch want a fee for claiming these shares at 12.5% but also said that I can my claims these shares for free but do not explain how.
Any ideas how I do obtain these for free?
P.S. I was executor for my father
Pulled threw from co-op web site at the time of death about probate and figured I never needed probate.
Probate is not always required for small Estates in England and Wales. There are laws in place which allow certain assets to be transferred to someone else, and also allows for a maximum of £5,000 cash to be paid out without the need for Probate.

Contact Shell directly and explain the situation - they will probably have a team who is dedicated to this sort of thing. These assets will become part of the estate, and will need to be dealt with by the executor(s), as only they have the legal right to act on behalf of the deceased. I would imagine the easiest way to deal with them would be to simply liquidate the shares, and re-buy them if you want to keep them, rather than trying to transfer them into your name if that is what you were planning to do.
Also be careful, and don't reply to ProSearch - they will likely try to take a huge cut of any reclaimed assets, and then probably use any information you supply them for something dodgy, if that thread above is anything to go by0 -
called Shell who told me a pack of lies.
They said without probate that the money could not be claimed unless I used prosearch? What a crook of lies
I am the executor, probate was never needed as my dad with an estate of £200.0 -

They should without probate the money could not be claimed?
What lies? They're not going to just hand the shares over to you based on a phone call, are they?0 -
I said how do I go about getting the shares? I have proof, I have death cerificates etc.
Shell said without probate you cannot claim the shares yourself and most pay the 12.5% fee and uses pro search?
I said but it sates on the forms that it can be done for free by writing off, where do I write?
She said if you have no probate then use pro search.
I asked once more and they said pro search was my only option.
Lots of people have got their shares/money without using pro search.0 -
called Equiniti who are going to get their bereavements department to call me back.
Why would Shell not just say call Equinit but instead hand out this bad info.0 -
No financial institution should give you any money or items of value belonging to your deceased father. They should only deal with the executor or executors of the estate named on the Grant of Probate. The same applies to Pro Search; they could not get hold of the shares without proper authorisation.Reed0
