Orange and a grandparent, help required

Im fairly sure that my nanna doesn't have a friend called Orange who is sending these two her and why would a third party send a text to her advising her that call charges have changed? In any case, Orange has to be my first point of contact, even if it wasn't them.
You're underestimating mobile technology, a number doesn't have to be in your phone under a name for a name to come up, For example i've subscribed to a few news and sports text services, ticket deals etc, all done online, never saved the number for any of them yet every text i receive will say it's from "SoccerNEWS" "Three" "Hot Tickets" the majority of 5 digit numbers are capable of dictating the From part without any number being saved on the phone. Orange is still your first port of call though but they'll most likely tell you that it wasn't them sending the message.timberflake wrote: »Ok, lets see for arguments sake you're right and it is a 3rd party, how do I trace who it was and stop them? I won't accept "it can't be done".
You might find it difficult, they're not usually based in the UK and make their money by signing people up then going to Orange etc so they're not going to be scared off by any UK laws or OFCOM regulations.Bought, not Brought0 -

I know that, what I was trying to say is that all the other messages on her phone were from Orange too and said things like "There's been a changed to your call charges, please visit www.orange.co.uk for further details", there's no way a 3rd party would send this sort of text as its of no benefit to them so just assumed the free phone one was from Orange too.
In any case, my first port of call HAS to be Orange, if they deny any knowledge of what has happened then I'll need to tell my nanna that next time they call and claim to be from Orange to tell them she's a little busy and ask for the persons name, telephone number and ext so she can call them back.0 -
Try orange and see what they say, surely they keep a record of any third party companys who ring up orange customersNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

I'm always getting these sorts of calls/texts on my Orange PAYGO, but rarely to never on my O2 one. I think Orange must sell off lists of their numbers, as I've never given it out, and opted out of everything I could when I registered it. So definitely worth trying Orange, if only to ask who they've been handing numbers out to.0

it's not that they sell off their numbers, it's more to do with the fact that you can connect/upgrade orange customers with a verbal "yes" from the customer.
o2 prefer to keep customers direct.
these companies pick a number they know is on orange, and ring a hundred numbers either side of it because the numbers are all produced in a run, ie numbers ending 071, 072,073 etc.
it's hit and miss and they always give the hard sell and pretend they're from orange:mad:It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
