Would you buy a converted flat if you had a choice?

I know, what a scream. For several days the vote swung between 60 and 70%. It would appear that pro conversion lobby have been canvassing for votes in the last couple of hours.
Either that or the effects of labelling 40% of the people who took the time to respond to the poll as muppets .0 -

macaque - if you can really delude yourself into interpreting that as sarkin agreeing with you you are a lost cause!0 -
Be fair. He didn't say he liked conversions. He just said they were the lesser of the evils. That seems to be tacid agreement.0 -

He didn't say anything about conversions being the lesser of two evils, you just made that up.
How is someone saying they prefer conversions over new-builds agreeing tacitly or otherwise with a person who says he prefers new-builds over conversions?
Why don't you just accept this is an issue where there is simply no right or wrong - just different people valuing differing features according to their personal needs/tastes?0 -
it'd actually be more interesting to actually see who voted based on experience of living in the different properties rather than on opinion/perception of what they think it is like also. That said it's evident that macaque had a self fulfilling prophecy he wanted to push so all irrelevant really.0

I voted based on living in a conversion but also have knowledge of new-builds from the fact my brother and my ex both bought these. To my mind there is no comparison between a home built of solid stone (sandstone) roofed with stone (slate) with solid stone fireplaces (marble) , floored and doored in solid oak with high ceilings and generous room sizes.. and a shoddily constructed new-build with tiny bedrooms & paper-thin walls which mean I now have too much knowledge about their bathroom habits!
Having said that, of course price is a huge factor. In my city conversions are so desirable that they cost an absolute fortune so the comparison above is not very fair since for the same value of a beautiful conversion you could probably buy an architect-designed, well-constructed spacious newbuild apartment with a layout that has been specifically designed for modern living instead of adapted...
..it all boils down to personal taste/needs0
