Would you buy a converted flat if you had a choice?

So there it is. 60% of this poll would not buy a Converted property if they had the choice. Although some notable exceptions exist, converted houses are just a recipe for high blood pressure. And yet a nation of muppets goes on shelling out six figure sums for Edwardian drawing rooms converted flats.
The expectations of the British public are so low these days. Until the EU outlawed it, the car industry used to charge car buyers in Britain up to double the price. The UK was laughingly referred to (by car companies) as 'treasure island'. What did the car buyers do? They were more concerned about sitting outside the car showroom until midnight so that they could get the latest registration plates.
What ever happend to those people who painted themselves blue and cut the heads off Romans?0 -
I have lived in a wonderful converted flat for 7 years and would not consider living in a purpose build ever. Saying that, most of the flats where i live are in lovely old buildings so even if you didn't want to live in one, you wouldn't have much choice, although horrible landscape scarring developments are popping up more and more now sadly.
we have no problems with noise, are neighbours downstairs cannot be heard and they say they never hear us and the same goes for the neighbours above us. The only time the sound travels is when a party is held, which so infrequent it's not a hassle.
Maybe I just got lucky, but the ceiling height, bay windows, period detailing, marble fireplaces and the generous room sizes beat a new build anyday, impo.
and i am certainly not a muppet Macaque.0 -

Same here. I can't see how all converted flats are a bad idea. Some will be, some won't. But the same can be said for new build surely, just with different problems.

but it's not an objective question, surely the question should've been:
"if quality of finish (decorating, kitchen, bathroom, etc) are equal would you rather live in a period conversion or a new build."
obviously there are generalisations, ie all new build have paper thin walls, this isn't the case at all, MOST are just thrown up and are prefabricated chipboard, etc whereas you can get some proper good high quality new builds using more traditional methods.
same as you can get great period conversions and also shabby bodge job by the roger the dodger! lol
so with everything being equal I'd prefer the old period conversion for the period features, higher ceilings, etc,
but then again if everything was equal and the new builds had high ceilings, larger rooms, etc
then really you can only ask on the exterior of the property and as most new builds are now of a uniform appearance i'll stick with period conversion! lol0 -
So are we going to have one of these polls for each type of property in the hope that gradually, category by category, we all become too disillusioned to buy anything?!0

I intend to live in a conversion on this south facing street overlooking 7 acres of landscaped gardens sloping down to a river to which only residents of this street and 1 other side street can gain access for a fee of £170 p/a and no dodgy rip of management company sucking your blood either!!!
