This morning i got someone a phone call from someone claiming to be from a company called Grant Thornton UK LLP. they said i have one outstanding loan with wonga and his file said i had a top-up on it as well. he wanted me to make payment in full but i refused. he said if i dont then he will put this on wongas systems and interest is going to shoot up and if i dont pay my latest repayment they will ensure it goes to debt collection instantly 72 hours after.
i had no intention of not paying my next amount and these calls are worrying me. does anyone know whats happening? i heard something about them on the news so does this have something to do with it??
thank you for your help

I imagine they're keen to get all the payments in they can.
As long as you are adhering to the terms, you can ignore them.0 -
Wonga is going into liquidation and Grant Thornton is the administrator. I think you should be able to continue with existing payments but they may be trying to get as much in as possible.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. If the phone call sounded as intimidating as you make out, I would make an official complaint. Obviously, people who have borrowed from Wonga would not be in a position to settle outright, and GT should know that. Bunch of shysters.I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

I would be wary of any such type of phone calls in the near future as the scammers will be all over this. Any such agreement has to be confirmed in writing. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Sounds like a scam to me. Someone using the name of the administrator to scam you out of money.0

This is not a serious post. Since Wonga entered administration less than 48 hours ago, the administrator would not be contacting clients, even more so to demand immediate repayment.
Despite what has happened, all signed credit agreements must be adhered to from both parties, including the agreed repayment schedule. It's either a scam, in which case just hang up. OR, as they've literally just gone into administration, you're trolling and have had no such call.0 -
^^ This exactly ..
My money would be on this being an attempted scam0 -
^^ This exactly ..
My money would be on this being an attempted scam
If it was a scam, how did they obtain the debtors details ?
How did they know the OP had a Wonga loan ?
If indeed it was an attempted scam, it suggests they have access to the OP`s credit file, or other personal information, which further suggests a breech of data protection, which may go much deeper than this.
On the other hand it may just of been a last ditch attempt to avoid insolvency which failed.
