Are you sure he doesn't mean bank transfer?

Not much room for interpretation I'd say

    Hello,

I need to withdraw £20k cash to buy a new car (cash in hand).
The seller is giving a £1k discount for cash payment.
I have never taken out this much money before.
Can I just walk into my local branch and do it, or will I be arrested?
Or do I need to order it? If I do, how do I do this?
I'd also prefer £50 notes only.

I wouldn't carry 20k in cash with me mate. Might be worth taking a step back and actually thinking about what you're doing.

John, i've been twice to the local branch to take 12 and 15k cash. First time was quite easy..no questions or stuff. Second time, it happened to go to a branch in a quite bad area and at the moment of taking the money, two "customers" drunk/drugs were looking quite insistently at me. I started to feel a bit nervous because I knew I parked the car in a Lidl car park and I need to walk at least 3-400m. But nothing happened.
Bank staff asked me a lot of questions, filled some papers and they were making me aware of today's scams and if is something wrong to give them a sign or something. I had/have the right to not tell them what I need to do with the money (i just said i need to buy something), they insisted a lot but I answered to a lot of questions with "no/no comment".
Before I've been to get the money I phoned them and ask to be ready with cash, they said they'll takr care of my request but everytime I been there the branch staff were never informed. So nice communication between bank and customer. I always asked for £50 notes and firstly they said is not possible but after they managed to find in branch the notes.
    Barclays !!!

So, don't worry to be arrested or something else. Just some questions and you have the right to refuse to answer or to give short answers and that's it.

Ps. I will go next month to withdrawn all my money to buy another currency so I am expecting to be the same, few questions and a big brown envelope.

    Good luck

I'm not surprised they'll be asking questions, sounds very much like money laundering behaviour to me. If you keep doing it you may be asked questions by some people who won't take no for an answer.

Get a bankers draft for 21k and forget about the 1k off as it sounds dubious.

I think most money laundering involves putting cash into the banking system, not taking your own money out. But perhaps I don't know enough about it...

    Does it even need answering.

Either go into your bank or ring the call centre and enquire.

I wonder what happened to using the girlfriends debit card.
