BT landline to Vodaphone broadband

I have an existing BT landline and want to ditch it for Vodaphone broadband which comes with a "free" landline.
What would be the procedure ? Get in touch with Vodaphone and let them deal with closing down my BT landline or do I need to end my contract with BT then sign up to Vodaphone
I assume I can keep my existing BT number
Thank you very much.

You don't get a 'free' landline with Vodafone, it's just marketing bull, Vodafone just chose to portray their offer as 'no line rental', but the fact is, it's about the same price as other company's that obviously charge for line rental and broadband ( if Vodafone is £20 a month, does it matter if they say broadband £20 line rental £0, or broadband £10, line rental £10, it's still £20/month.
If you only have line rental with BT ( no broadband with anyone) you should already have benefited from the reduced £11.99 line rental.
If you move to another provider, then it's that new provider that serves your notice to the provider you are leaving , you don't contact the old provider yourself....if you want to keep your existing phone number, you need to make the new company aware of that requirement , otherwise you will be given a new number.
Unfortunately forums such as this have many examples of even when the new company is told you want to keep the existing number, they mess up the number port.0 -
The other thing, OP, is where are you in your contract with BT.
Have you reached the end of your minimum term (12/18 months)?
If not, then BT will charge ETC.0 -
I put "free" in inverted commas to emphasise the fact we all know it's not really free.
I presently have a BT basic landline which I have had for 10 years and also virgin media broadband which I have today given my 30 day notice since I am out of contract.
My idea is to just have the Vodaphone line and broadband package.0 -
Vodaphone will deal with closing your BT down.
And transfering number if that is what you request. (although voda can be funny with keeping your number)
Have you looked at NowTV BB ?
Includes free calls right now. And cheaper than voda I think.0 -
Thank you so much for the replies.
I looked at Nowtv BB and it’s the same price for the speed I require. Plus if I go with Vodaphone I get a £200 GoPro camera for signing up.I do very few landline calls so the cost of them will be insignificant.0 -
Where did you get the voda offer0

I would suggest taking a look in the Vodafone community forum and have a read through. While there are many happy customers, there are a few (myself included) who are suffering congestion slowdowns in the evening. My 48.6 sync has been running at sub 20meg speeds for a week now, with dips down to 8meg. I am exercising my 30 day right to leave and go elsewhere now, even though I miss out on the speaker0
