Any point supplying own parts to garage?
So I've been shopping around often finding parts significantly cheap. If I provide parts to a garage, on some occasions i know they are marking up their labour to compensate for loss they would have made on parts.
I beleive many garages go to eurocarparts and so I buy from them , however how much discount do the garages get on the prices I'm seeing?
After I see something on eurocarpart I always check it on carparts4less which is sometimes 50% cheaper than i get eurocarparts to match it.
Basically I want to know should I keep sourcing and providing my own parts at cheapest price or should I let the garages supply. If garages dont get a big discount then I guess it makes sense for me to find parts, since even if they do increase labour im still likely to make savings.
my current garage charge £50 an hour but its not fixed, u pay for however long they take on the job. but other garages ive used like to provide the parts themselves.

The trouble is if they fit a part that turns out to be faulty then you are going to be paying them to fit a replacement if you have supplied the parts. And lets face it if you are buying parts on price from ECP then it's going to happen sooner rather than later.0

but are they too not supplying parts from ecp? Any case Im thinking more about the financial savings.0 -
If they do source from ECP I doubt they get the cheapest ones. Who wants customers coming back after a month complaining that the part you have fitted has worn out.0

My personal experience is that garages have stopped taking the !!!! on parts pricing since Eurocarparts have made it very simple to look at the prices of parts.0

If you get the garage to supply the parts, they'll take problems with the parts up directly with the supplier (and usually just get a replacement). If you buy them yourself, you'll need to pay the garage to remove the part, and then get a replacement yourself.
Lots of garages won't fit customer-supplied parts because they can't warrant the condition and don't want to be blamed for fitting substandard parts. You buy a crap part, they fit it, it fails, you complain to them about fitting it wrong.0 -
It's not unusual for me to supply parts to a garage because I drive old cars and often those parts are difficult to obtain so the garage often prefers in in these instance.
I have a Golf and just let the garage get on with it. For me I would supply genuine boxed parts but not bother with anything else.
I am the first to shout just let them get on with their job and enjoy the guarantee and everything else that goes with garage supplied parts. If you don't trust them go elsewhere.0 -

If you want to make even bigger savings then do the work yourself.0 -

As has been said if you really want to save money do the work yourself.
I often find that on a lot of jobs the time and inconvenience of taking a car to the garage and collecting it equates to the time I need to do the job.
I know it takes space and equipment but I did a lot of jobs for years on the road in London, including Clutches and major engine and suspension works.0 -
Let garage do everything otherwise if you have a susequent problem, they will blame the parts and you're stuck getting any sort of comeback/guarantee.0
