I've just come home from work and discovered that one of my windows (upstairs front bedroom) has been broken! :(

Should I contact the police?

Should my builders/NHBC replace the window?

It's a double glazed window and it hasn't broken both panes.

Well to me that looks like a bullet hole. Is there anything within your room? I'd be contacting the police.

I'm 99% certain that was caused by an air gun pellet. Do any of your neighbours shoot at pigeons/ sea gulls ?

Yes, I would call the police - indiscriminate shooting like that could seriously hurt someone next time.

I agree as the local kids here did that to me ages ago.

Air gun pellet, and yes cal lthe police to get it noted, as I did.

I'd guess pellet too. Quite high velocity.

I watch too much TV. find the impact mark inside and put a string from that to the hole, and it will point to the location of the shooter.

Any holes or marks on the wall opposite anywhere?
Looks like an airgun, or possibly catapult hit form outside.
Anyone shooting an airgun so that the pellets go off their own property could be in real trouble.

That was my initial thought as well. I would have expected it to shatter the double glazing completely? Luckily it hasn't broken the second pane. Plus I can't see a bullet anywhere. :S

An air rifle (or pistol) pellet from a fair range would only have the power to break the first pane. The pellet (which will now look like a miniature metal cow pat) has either dropped into the sealed unit or is on the ground outside the window.

Have you called the police yet?

Yep called 101 and getting a crime reference number. Now to arrange a replacement. Does anyone know if the NHBC/builders would replace it? :(

Doubt it - but if the builders are still on site you might be able to get them to change the sealed unit for 'trade' price.
