Oooh - can I join please? I can request books to be delivered to my local library online for free so I have used Amazon to create a 'wish list' of all the books that I read reviews of and think I would like to read in the future, and then use this list to request them from the library when I want something to read, deleating the book from my Amazon list when I have read the book. I have just logged onto my library account and requested Northern Lights.MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. Sounds great to me fishface! I'd better start thinking of a choice of book now, ready for when it's my turn. I'll let you know what I think of The Memory Keepers Daughter if I ever make it to the end...lol!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

Ooh, me too. Sounds like a fab idea, as long as you are not all super-clever and want to discuss hidden meanings and allegories (sp?) in books like they did when I did A Level eng. lit! Sometimes I think that the author just writes what he did because it sounds good and not because he actually meant something else but wants you to guess what!
Haven't read Northern Lights, will have to look for it.0 -
Chocaholic, right there with you!
We read Animal Farm at school - apparently it was about Russian politicsand there was me thinking it was about talking pigs....:rotfl: :rotfl:

I just want it to be fair but if anyone has any issues with this please PM me cos this is meant to be fun! Ok so if this goes to plan peachy pickle gets to pick the next book...! People dont have to pick one if they dont want to though...Are people ok with this?
Oh the power, the power! :rotfl: It's a good idea to rotate 'choosers' as it were or we'd probably spend months deciding what we were going to read. I'd suggest we all say what genres we really like, what we really hate and what we're unsure about. Just so that no-one makes me read a book about Robbie Williams or something really... It might give us some clues as to what direction to aim. Maybe we could take it in turns to suggest 3 books, give a little synopsis and let people vote for the favourite? So we could get a little variety and still have a bit of choice. Just an idea, I'm rambling now
So when are we actually discussing Northern Lights? :rotfl: Did I miss that part?
Oh and you're right FF, there's no point wasting time on a guy who isn't right, and he just wasn't. we had some funbut it was never going anywhere. I think he was after someone a bit less independent, and I like the idea of someone not quite so mental :rotfl:

I'm really not very discerning, so I'll read pretty much anything (except Robbie Williams
).
A choice of 3 would be good though, because I'm a bit nervous of making a choice by myself - I'm rubbish at making decisions!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Oh, and if anyone is actually wanting to buy the Northern Lights book, you can get the trilogy boxset halfprice online at WH Smiths at the moment (I've actually bought it for someone as a christmas present, well organised me!) and if you select delivery to store it's free. So that's £11 for all three books. Bargain

Not that I'm recommending buying books for every month of this, just that I knew there was a deal to be had!DFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls

hehe pp! Love the BF (x!) comment!! If you want to give people a choice of 3 thats fine but bearing in mind that we're probably all quite different suspect that you wont please all the people all of the time!
As for being intellectual I dont intend to be! Having said that the idea of book group is to broaden your horizons a bit - read books you wouldnt have normally & look for meaning but no long words required! Its a discussion after all!
No you havent missed the discussion on Northern Lights - suspect some still have to read it so this months will be slightly shorter discussion because of that if people are ok with this? How many people have actually read it?! Off to finish my copy!! I was really chuffed as not read any of his before & read so much that I often run out of authors cos they dont write quickly enough!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Brilliant idea - letting everyone take a turn in choosing.........and I'd also like to say that I am really looking forward to reading others' favourites! I tend to stick to the same authors all the time.
1st of the month sounds good too...........If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome!0
