I loved Dark Materials trilogy - and yes I'd love to read it again! My big weakness is books - though I've gone from spending £100+ a month in borders/WHsmiths/Waterstones to speding £5 a week in the charity shops on books - they are a passion of mine though! And yes, we have a library but... never seem to get anything new and I'd spend WAY MORE than £5 a month requesting books to read at 50p a pop!

Jo, that sounds like a good book - any good?

I'm going away for a week and am taking a book a day to read:
    buckland's complete witchcraft
    Thomas Keneally - schindler's list
Trudi Canavan - last of the wilds / voices of gods
    Jilly Cooper - Pandora
    Scott Cunningham - living/wicca

Eclectic mix but I NEED to relax and this mix will achieve that!

I've really enjoyed it, it's a biography of his life and quite an eye opener. Won't spoil it for anyone that's not read it but basically he came from nothing, with nothing, and is now a multi-millionaire and, to me, has proved that anyone can do it!

I'm in too - I got a WHSmiths voucher for my birthday and haven't used it yet, so might treat myself to a couple of books. I haven't read Northern Lights, in fact :o I haven't even heard of it :o, but I'll give it a go.

I'm reading 'The Memory Keeper's Daughter' at the moment, it's so beautifully written and so incredibly sad - I cry every couple of pages so it's a bit slow going!

  • yes of course you can little owl! Welcome! Snaggles I loved the memory keepers daughter & wept buckets at the start but felt it lost it a bit at the end so would be interested on your thougts! I'm almst at the end of Northern Lights & havent been able to put it down! Spendaholic do you have a gumtree or local web page near you? Thats how I found my "real" group. Most are a bit younger than me (one depressingly by 17 years which made me feel REALLY old for the first time & I'm only 38!!) but while nervous I really enjoyed it!
Ok so if people are happy we'll do Northern Lights for this month & I'd suggest that we start discussing new books at the start of each month so next book to start 1 December. I'll change post one to list books that are going to be discussed. In the spirit of fairness would suggest that people say the book they want us to do and they can go in order of when people joined if that is OK with people? I just want it to be fair but if anyone has any issues with this please PM me cos this is meant to be fun! Ok so if this goes to plan peachy pickle gets to pick the next book...! People dont have to pick one if they dont want to though...Are people ok with this?
