Worried about new DFS sofa

I just took delivery of a brand new 2 and 3 seater Edmund sofa from DFS in leather on Thursday morning. We chose this sofa because it seemed firm and supportive for my husband’s bad back. However after only a few days you can already see where we have been sitting - either because the leather has stretched or because the foam/fibres underneath the seat cushions haven’t sprung back fully. I took pictures and went back to the store we bought it from and showed it to the sales assistant who had sold us the sofa.
She told me that what we were seeing was perfectly normal - that sofa fillings need to settle and ‘grow’ after being stuck in packaging. She said to leave it another 4 to 6 weeks and that the leather and fillings would settle down. I have never had a leather sofa before and don’t know if this is true or not? By leaving it 4 weeks will I be losing any right to return or refund if it we still aren’t happy after waiting the time they suggest?
Baffled as to how their explanation can be true - surely a brand new sofa should look brand new for some time??
Having now read some of the threads on here I am really regretting my purchase. We paid just under 4K for the two sofas and I expect them to last the 10 year “guarantee” period at least (although that now doesn’t sound worth the paper it’s written on!!)
Many thanks for reading and for any advice/reassurances.

You're going to need to be insistent that you are unhappy with the cushions. My DFS leather sofas are 14 years old and the cushions are still firm and with no stretching to the leather. Still look and feel exactly as they did when they were delivered.0 -

If you do decide to wait and see what happens then my suggestion would be to write to DFS (signed for delivery and keep a copy of the letter) explaining the situation and stating that you are willing to wait the 4 to 6 weeks as suggested by the store staff.
However, point out that as you have contacted them about a potential fault within 30 days of purchase then should there be a problem with the filling after this 30 day period then your Consumer Rights act short term right of rejection will still apply as they were notified of the problem during the initial 30 days..0 -
Hi,The Edmund sofa uses distressed natural soft leather which basically means it does not have the protection and stiffness of a surface coated leather however is still a very good one,but it's just not as durable and certainly not good with young children as it will soak up liquids if untreated like blotting paper.
In regards to your cushions....the seat one are a mixture of foam with a layer of fibre on the top and to be fair they shouldn't be showing signs of where you sit yet,so I would book a service call to get one of there mobile techs to have a look at it and at the same time you can tell him about the back cushions as I believe there just fibre filled.0
