Smart tv won’t open itv hub or other apps

Hi

My smart tv in my bedroom is hooked up to the WiFi and I watch tv through a sky box wired up to the dish outside. The sky box is not in subscription it is an old box and still works for some channels only.

When I have tried to open up the apps on the tv, eg, itv hub, bbc I player, All 4, demand 5 etc. It pops up with the display
‘this application requires the tv to be tuned in and connected to the internet. Please check your connections and settings.’

The app ‘you tube’ works perfectly and I can access the internet tab and log in to websites on the tv.

Not sure how to tune it in with the devices I have at hand. A sky dish, a sky box and a smart tv. In my eyes it’s tuned in already. It clearly disagrees. How can I convince it, that it is already tuned in. Or do I need to setup differently?
Thank you in advance!

  • First thing to try is to unplug the TV for 5 minutes and then let it reboot. It's only "tuned in" if you have an aerial or satellite dish connected to the TV itself and using the built in tuner. Unless things have changed you don't require this for the listed apps.

Would help if there was a little more info beyond 'smart tv'
However first guess, run set up on the built in tuner
  • So if I try to connect the dish to the tv and run a first time installation it could work? But thenil have no use for the box?

    It’s a bush tv. Model Dled32287hdcntdfvp

No. The TV is requiring you to tune it and give it internet, to use the apps you want to.
    You have internet
  • Yeah it is connected to the internet through WiFi.
  • Ran ‘first time installation’ no channels found.

I had this issue with an LG TV. It needed a terrestrial aerial connected to it to go through the initial set up.

Once you had done that (and it had found the terrestrial TV channels), it then worked ok as a Smart TV without the aerial connected.
  • So Il have to buy an aerial to set it up?

If you have a sufficiently strong signal, then an indoor aerial may suffice.

However, I can't guarantee that this is the issue that you are having

Borrow an indoor aerial to set up .

TV Setup/ menu should show if you are connected to the internet or not .Could be your wifi password on the tv is wrong .
