Should I increase working hours?

I increased my hours from 24 hours to full time 1 year ago when my child started senior school. I'm still not used to it after 12 years of part time working. I hate the fact I have little me time and the house always seems a mess! I feel it's just work and sleep and nothing else. My plan is to use the extra money to pay off debts and get some substantial savings then probably reduce my hours again. Maybe I'm just a light weight but I feel I'm missing out on life.
Whatever you choose it doesn't have to be forever. If it's not for you then change back again. Have a good think about school holidays and maybe some strategies to save time by online shopping etc!

I chose to go back to work full time after having my son, and will be doing the same after having my second.
I enjoy my job, it does wonders for my mental health and the extra money has meant we've been much more comfortable and able to buy a bigger house.
The thing that makes me feel guilty, is that I have to admit I value my time with DS more now- I didn't particularly enjoy being at home with him and find the full time mum thing hard work. He's the love of my life and I adore him, but it's hard!
Once he is all grown up I'll still be a person and putting my life on hold whilst he grows up seemed a bit silly, what would I be left with when he has flown the nest? I was investing in mine AND his future.
It really helps though that DS loves nursery. And I get to do loads of fun stuff with him at weekends. I also get flexi with work, so often have a day off a month with him.0 -
Rambosmum that's a good post and I can identify with what you say about the time with your kids being precious. My eldest is going away to college soon and I am glad I have work to keep me busy, I am going to miss him so much.
Do what makes you happy if you are lucky enough to be able to.0
