So would I actually. Do let us know if you do find one!

I do think that there must be a lot of students who never go to the library and would consider loaning you their card for a few pounds. How you'd find such students is another matter.

If you hang around at the enterance someone would hold the door and let you in, especially if your not going in that late

  • In my uni the library was 24/7 and you only needed to sign in/show your card after 10pm, if you were in the library before that no one checked. I don't think I ever had to show my card as proof of being a student to use the library in the 3 years I was there. Chances are you could use your local uni library and no one will ask for ID.

Mine had entrance gates, your card got you through them.

I'd be very surprised if any of the central London student libraries had no system preventing people from walking off the streets and into them.
  • Friend and colleague who between them went to Imperial and LSE emailed me stating both card entry. I remember both my universities were card. There maybe some remote ones out of central London maybe with the polytechnic places but I guess too much trouble going each time hassle of thinking about been asked anytime.

Looked at online courses at universities via distance learning to gain access etc but nothing economical for just access to a 24/7 library.

Ok, really can't see anything other than a 24/7 co-work space but found this list that will be also useful for others. Starting very cheap options from £65/month.

There are some budget options for 24/7 but some places look small and too compact. Did like the look of the V22 Shoreditch which is 24/7 and only £150/month unlimited access - plan to book a tour see what is like and if still places (showing none available at moment - not sure if up to date). Other than that will take tour of WeWork at Aldgate Tower at £250/month - slightly more but looks great layout.

I worked in that one for a few months. It was okay. They used to give out stuff for breakfast (muffins and croissants etc). And there's a beer tap - it's not always on but you can probably recoup some of your investment when it is.

I thought the same thing (I use it myself as a university staff member) but I'm not sure it would apply in this case as it appears that the OP is not a student and probably doesn't work for an educational establishment.

Note for the OP that some university libraries do open 24 hours but usually only at exam times, which is unlikely to be now.
There are resits going on atm ...

Just to update that Queen Mary's University offer a library access for visitors that are none current students or none students at other universities.

It is available up to 3 months membership (then need apply renew again) but will need show on application what research report/work etc doing to apply. This is open 24hrs throughout term and standard hrs outside term. Membership is off peak hours from 19.00 so ideal for those looking for 24hr place or late hours to work.

I am going with a 24hr co-work place (with no contract flexible month to month term) for now but will look into this for my next professional exam and can tie in any work consultancy projects.
