Worth bidding when a seller has zero feedback?

There are only a few hours left on an item that I would like to bid on, but the seller has zero feedback and has only been a member of ebay for a week.

Apologies if this topic has been exhausted already, but the auction runs out in a few hours.

Any tips appreciated to ascertain that this is a genuine seller.
Thanks

send me the item number and i'll have a look, but for a few extra pounds it may be worth it to go for a repuatble seller.

If it were me...i would be a bit wary... email the seller fo some infor regarding the item (anything ... just to get a response) and take it from there.

Have they got paypal set up?

I certainly would not do a large sale but would consider a small one. One thing you find with ebay ...there will ususally be a similar item sooner rather than later. ;-)

everybody has to start on Ebay with 0 feedback and it'll never change if people don't buy from or sell to.

That much is true...but not to have bought anything...can you be sure that the newbie knows the ropes.

My first buy was bought from another newbie and I got fleeced. Not by much (£14 but got nothing back from ebay). I have bought things from new sellers (but with feedback) and had to help them through setting up paypal to recieve funds!

On the other hand it culd be a seasoned seller with a new account, thats why I would email.

But still would not buy an expensive item from an inexperienced seller/buyer.

I bought something recently from a seller with 0. I was a bit nervous but it was all fine in the end. I wouldn't bid if you couldn't afford to lose the money

I've got a few items for sell with 0 feedback on no-one bid on them - maybe the price was too high but I thought I'd give it a go.... The price is under a tenner so I thought people might give it a go but it seems not. The annoying thing is that I have 97 feedback (100%) in my regular account (buying & selling) but want to keep this selling seperate as I'm selling a few bits with my mum....

I can hardly mention that I really am a 'trusted' seller with 2 IDs tho - lol!

I would avoid sellers where the listing look too professional. I figure that a newbie to eBay wouldnt be creating a great looking listing on their first attempt, so I would assume it was a seller using a new ID as their previous ID had run into trouble!

Thanks for the feedback much appreciated. Apologoes for breaking the thread.
Was doing other background research and another suggestion was to ask the person if I could go around, visit them and pay cash. The idea being that if it is not an authentic sale, then they will back off really quickly.

Anyway, I thought it was too dodgy so I did not bid. After examining the other "bidders" who also had limited feedback.
