Mobile Speed Camera

I was going 35mph on my cars speedometer passed a mobile speed camera do you think it's 100% certain that I will receive a fine?

What was the speed limit, they range from 20 to 70 mph generally.
  • It was a 30mph road.

Assuming a 30 limit and assuming that your speed was constant between the camera 'seeing' you and you noticing them..... Speedo will usually over read by a couple of mph and there is not usually any enforcement action below 35mph so you should be OK. No guarantee though......
  • Yes I was doing 35 at the very most on my speedometer and reduced it even more when I noticed the van.

    Possible but unlikely.

An indicated speed of 35 probably means you were doing about 33 mph.

You would be unlucky to be done for that but it can happen.

Guidelines for prosecution are speed limit plus 10% plus 2 mph.

    That is 35 in a 30 limit. 30 plus 3 plus 2 = 35.

However not all police forces etc follow those guidelines.

Was the camera actuality being operated by the police? In our area, community volunteers operate mobile speed cameras in partnership with the police. If they catch you speeding, you get a warning letter from the Police. They can't (or don't) prosecute though.

Given the can get you at up to 1000 metres, the question is what were you doing when they first saw you?
  • I wasn't going over 35mph and it was a blue van with just a camera facing towards traffic with no-one sat in it.

Cameras in the vans are manually aimed and triggered, if there was no one in the van it could not have been operating.
