Hi
Does anyone here have experience of selling a car worth 14k in the market ?
it is bmw 4 series which has a value of 16 k retail and 14k trade.
i want to try and sell it privately for 15.5 or 15k .
would people spend that much cash from private buyer?
I personally don't and always prefer to spend 2-3k more and buy it from a dealer.
for instance I think he would struggle to sell this

I think you've answered your own question. The vast majority of people, like you, will go to a dealer for a little bit more and get a warranty, trade in facilities, finance, etc.
Oh and the Camaro may sell because of rarity, that colour combo, and your typical Camaro buyer is a very different individual from your average BMW buyer.0 -
Exactly what motorguy said.....
People that can afford a £15000 car dont really mind it being £750 more at a main dealer where they can buy the car on the drip, get a main dealer warranty and the feeling they've got somewhere to go if it goes wrong.0 -
Has anyone here sold a 15k car that is 1-2k under market value?0

Hi
I sold a car at approx £14k cash. I priced it a little under its full worth for a quick sale. No problem at all0 -

Same here, but again, it wasnt a run of the mill BMW. You will find that people are more prepared to do it for rarer cars. I just went to the bank with the bloke, transfered the money in there, all was good.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

I've sold three cars in the last six months (no, not a dealer, just change of heart and clearing up of my garage!).
One was a 2007 Porsche Boxster S. Independent dealers had them up around £15-16k. I priced mine at £13.5k and sold it within a week.
I was quite happy with the price and the depreciation over 6 years I owned it (equiv to less than £20 a week).
It's quite easy with Autotrader to see what people are asking and pitch lower. If you tried to keep level, you'll slow down enquiries and still have the hassle of that shuffled negotiation on your driveway. Price to sell and have the phone busy then you don't have to come down any more from your price as you can simply say you'll sell it to the next caller if they don't want it.
Last 3 cars I sold, one was cash (£3k), the other two were bank transfers and waiting around for funds to show before letting them go with the car car.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
I sold two cars to WBAC for more than I was offered by the dealer as a trade-in on a new car."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

You've got 2 problems. 14k is a lot of money for private sale and most people at this price point want warranty, finance etc Secondly , it's a Beemer, so will attract every scrote and gangsta for miles around to make you comedy offers or try to dupe you.0

I have sold my last 3 cars private sale.
£22k . £18k. £20k.
BUT and the big but is they are all Electric. and the market for second hand EVs outstrips supply. So much better prices to sell Private
For a car that is common or fairly common. Unless its well below (25%) what they are on the forecourt its going to be a tough sell.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0
