Sky took a direct debit after contract was cancelled and keep pushing back the refund date

I gave my required notice period to cancel my broadband and was told my leaving date was the 27th July. I was also told that I would be owed a small amount of money from sky for the rest of the month as I had payed in advance.
On the 3rd of August I was billed as usual as if I had not cancelled the service. I called to correct this and was told that it was sky's error and I would have a full refund, including the other money I was owed in 5 working days.
On the 14th August this had still not happened so I called sky again to be told there had been another error and I will get my money in another 5 working days. I then used an online message to get written confirmation of this time period only to be told all the information I was given on the phone was incorrect. They said I would have to wait 45 days for the money to appear back in my account or I could contact them again on the 26th August to see if they can speed up the process then.
I was wondering if anyone had been in a similar situation or knew if there was a maximum time that sky has to refund me the money they wrongfully took from my bank after I cancelled their service? Or if there are any rights I have because of the amount of wrong information I have been given?

That is how Sky does it. They charge you in full for the month in which you leave and then refund you in the month following. This is because if you have the phone and or TV services they don't know how much you owe until after you left. It can be up to six weeks after the leaving date before you get the refund.
No point in complaining, just be patient.0 -

They got billed again 7 days after their final day when Sky already owed them a weeks worth of refunds.0 -

They tried to do this to me too, except I'd cancelled the direct debit to stop them. It will make getting my small refund slightly more difficult as I'll have to contact them after my next bill rather than them refunding automatically using the direct debit details. I didn't want them taking another month's charges though - I don't see why I should supply their working capital.
It would have been so much easier to keep the DD active and reclaim any monies erroneously taken via the money-back guarantee at your bank.0
