Good afternoon,
This is my first time on here so please be gentle!!
Just had a credit card decline my application, so what I would like to know is how long I can leave it before I can apply for another card as I have heard that applying to many times in a short space of time can wreck credit scores etc???
Thanks in advance

Hi Twizz1e and welcome to the forum
What company did you apply with?
Have you tried sub-prime cards?I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

Ignore any "scores or ratings" being wrecked.
Do you have any other credit accounts?
Any defaults or adverse credit history - late payments etc?0 -
Have you tried an eligibility checker, such as the MSE one? They aren't totally accurate as more information will be available on a hard search, but they are a guide.
Have you applied for any other credit recently? Usually 2 hard searches are ok. A third one (or more) tends to be viewed negatively. They lose their impact over time, with six months being a key point. They fall off at 12 or 24 months, depending on the CRA.0 -

6 months is the safest way to do it - 4 months if you stretch it. The reason being, each lender does its own calculations roughly every 3-4 months.

Was it just one application, and which provider? You may have fallen down for things other than your credit file, e.g. amount of income. Some sub-prime cards have pre-application checks you could try that only do a soft search0

If new to credit or have a record of bad handling, I would recommend avoiding the mainstream market for the time being.
You can use a direct soft check on the Capital One website and unlike an external check, their initial decision is often accurate, provided all other required checks pass.
Vanquis also introduced a direct soft check, but I would recommend Capital One first due to the slight difference in standard interest. It is now called standard because purchase and cash have been combined together, eliminating a separate rate for each.Advice provided from this account does not consist of any professional knowledge.
