Complaint about Excessive Barking, what exactly is excessive?

In terms of noise there is definately no noise after 9pm because quite simply we are all in bed then! Or going to bed and they dont go out.. during day there is a little yapper we have but minute he does 1-2 barks im on him and he goes back indoors, very very few times has he been left out to bark for much more then them initial 1-2 barks. I believe it is the neighbours behind us (who are slightly physcotic) they have been to another neighbour and threatened to shoot them they scream.and shout outside and 3-4x have screamed and shouted at my dog for barking -this is when he does more then them 2 barks- but in all honesty he has only screamed shutup or f-off 3x in a year.
Also to note dogs dont go out for wee till 7am (when i wake up!).
Times dogs are loud.. post, someone knocking door, food deliveries.. all typical.
I am going to get a bark collar for lil yappy dog (spray one). Just for when hes outside and randomly annoyingly barks them 1-2x, oh yipper can also bark at people going past house if they are loud 1-2 barks again bark collar now be in use for this situation.
Please don't get a spray collar, your dogs sound pretty normal and they aren't a nice thing to do to them. Barking in itself isn't always bad.0 -
I am a dog owner. If my dog was barking every time the post came, someone walked past, I got a delivery, someone knocked on the door, and it was more than a couple of barks I'd get annoyed quite quickly.
I'd get even more annoyed if it was the dog next door doing it.
I think what you may not be taking into account is that for the few times your neighbour has been outside swearing there's probably been a lot more times when he was !!!!ed off but didn't come out to make a fuss. "Shut that effing dog up" is generally not someone's first response.
Maybe you need to start your own diary to double check just what is happening and how often.
I think that depends on how often those things happen - in my case that would be no more than a couple of times a day.
Keeping a diary's a good idea if the owner's home to do it.0 -

Fair enough. So what advice would you provide to stop, or at least reduce the dogs barking?0 -
For the issue to count as a statutory nuisance it must do one of the following:
unreasonably and substantially interfere with the use or enjoyment of a home or other premises
injure health or be likely to injure health0 -
Get a good dog behaviourist in to evaluate your situation. For starters, if the dog feels the need to bark then it might have some underlying anxiety anyway, so worth getting a professional opinion / training programme.
I say this as the owner of one dog that does "normal" barking i.e. guard dog style, barks if someone comes to the door but not really in any other situation ... and one dog who seems to think his job is to be as loud as possible. I keep my neighbours supplied with freshly baked cakes and apologies!0 -
Do they bark late at night or early morning? Do they have a little woof or back for minutes at a time?
If you have an idea who it is, go and speak with them. Someone near me had no idea that their dog was barking while they were at work. They put a nice note on the gate apologizing and took steps to stop it.
Depends if it's a real complaint of someone being akward!0 -
It's difficult to ascertain whether your dogs are barking excessively or that your neighbours are over-sensitive/unreasonable.
OP why don't you keep your own diary and jot down every time they bark. This might be enlightening to you! but equally may come in helpful if you get a knock from the council and it shows that you are taking the matter seriously.
I once reported my neighbours to the council about their dog. They kept a German Shepherd as a guard dog outside 24 hours a day. It was an unhappy dog, and barked and squeeled all the time. As an animal lover, it was pitiful to listen to but equally made us angry at the constant disturbance.
In our case the dog barked all hours of the night. After one night of being woken by barking 5 times between 11.30pm and 4.30am, I got onto the council. They spoke to the residents and issued us with recording equipment. They did not tell the people they had already given us the equipment, so it's quite possible your dogs are already being recorded.
When you say your dogs go out for a wee at 7am, do they bark then? if so then that's unreasonable.0 -
A friend lives next door to a dog that barks every time someone walks passed the house, goes to the front door or goes to the neighbour's front door. It's incredibly annoyingDon't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

Part of my job involves deliveries to houses. There's a group of houses that look out into a courtyard. Two of the houses both have a small poodle like dog that bark continuously from the minute they see me to the minute I leave and possibly on beyond. One house the metal blinds by the door are ruined where the dog keeps flinging itself at them. I'm guessing it's like this with anybody passing by.
Another place the dog literally hurls itself at the window and is scrabbling at the glass.
I feel sorry for the dogs to be honest, they must be very distressed.Make £2026 in 2026

My next door neighbour has a little dog who barks at the postman, anyone walking past, delivery people ... It's annoying. No one has complained yet as we are all actually quite sorry for the dog, who is clearly bored out of her mind.
And of course you can teach a dog not to bark. Mind you the dog next door isn't trained at all.0
