Can I uninstall Windows update?

They are primarily to increase security. If performance decreases as a result, that is a necessary downside.whattochoose wrote: »Again, thanks for replies.
This is the first time I've experienced this kind of problem after a Windows update, so just wondering if a further update may follow to mitigate problems caused.
Is it naive of me to think that the updates Windows provides are meant to enhance your pc's operation, not slow everything down to a trickle?0 -
What make and model PC is it?
Also can you run inspectre and tell us what is says, including the CPUID.
To download look for the little green download box

I trust the source of the app, for what that's worth.0 -
I've noticed a slow-down in, generally not very powerful, computers with traditional hard drives. That may be partly due to comparisons with SSDs which have made a massive difference. Looking at some of the investigations done following the code updates, performance for disk intensive tasks (e.g. windows update or anti-virus scan) saw a performance reduction of 30%. Basically, if your computer feels sluggish and your computer is NOT in the middle of a windows update or virus scan, you need a SSD.0

Feedback on this topic is much appreciated.
I logged on to Lenovo Vantage, did a hardware scan, drivers have been updated, and my pc appears to have got much of its old speed back.
That said, still can't use CCleaner since the update. I know not everybody likes it, and obviously there was a big stink last year after the system was compromised, but I do find it a nifty piece of software. Presume at some point an update will come down the line that will make it usable again. What make and model PC is it?

Lorian, I downloaded inspectre and it came back with this......
Spectre & Meltdown Vulnerability Status
System is Meltdown protected: YES
System is Spectre protected: YES
Microcode Update Available: YES
Performance: GOOD
CPUID: 306D4
To my layperson's eyes this looks OK, but please can you shed light on what a CPUID of 306D4 means?
Thank you.0 -

It's just a code that identifies the model of your CPU.0 -

its quite quick CPU - are you noticing the slowdown in games or in day-to-day use?
Also, checking if there is a spectre compliant BIOS with the latest microcode in the BIOS would be good to look for. If you post the make and model we can check.0 -
Hi Lorian. It's a Lenovo G5080. However, please see this.....its quite quick CPU - are you noticing the slowdown in games or in day-to-day use?

So, for now it seems as if the problem is mostly resolved, but thank you for the advice.
By the way I never play games on my pc, just a surfer basically.0
