Talktalk final bill scam

Hello all

I ended my contract with TalkTalk on 20th August 2018.

Unfortunately, the bill cycle was 17th - 18th, meaning that there are three days left unpaid for in August.

TalkTalk have told me I have to pay for a full month and that I will receive a 'credit' later. This is useless to me as I intend never to use TalkTalk again as long as I live.

Can they force me to pay the month in advance?

    Firstly it's not a SCAM!

You will get a credit back to your bank account where the DD is taken once the account is finalised. Standard practice for TV, BB and mobile phone contracts to name three.
  • Hi Inner Zone

Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid you are not correct. I've been informed that the credit will be to my TalkTalk account and I may be able to obtain a refund into my bank account.

Any further advice given this update?

See the below from the TalkTalk customer service message I received in reply to this topic:
    Important notice.

Note: possible further charges (if applicable) Some call/TV Usage charges may not be charged in some cases for up to 3 months.

Once this final bill has been paid, you may receive a further bill just confirming your payment was received and your account balance as zero.

If this final bill is in credit, you may be able to claim a refund of the balance left on your account. This can be requested online [link removed]

It's standard practice to pay a month in advance, that's the way the cookie crumbles. If you happen to move provider at around that time in the month then its unfortunate.

TalkTalk are one of the known providers who will sit on credit forever given half a chance. Since you don't want to stay with them, move elsewhere, let the billing sort itself out and then claim any balance back.

But as above, it is not a scam, it is just unfortunate that you're leaving around your billing date. The same would happen with most other providers.

No disrespect to your good self but many people label perfectly ordinary processes as "scams" when things don't go the way they want them to go.
  • Thanks for the advice guys - you're right I was probably a bit too quick to assume malicious intent in this case.

It's good to know it's standard practice.
