I asked JLBB to credit me with three months rental (the length of time the recent fault had been running) plus one month as recompense and that they disconnect their service asap without any early termination fees ...

They agreed to everything without question :T

What I didn't say above was that I told them that I wanted to keep the landline service .... They didn't refuse to do that.
We went away for New Year ... just got back and ... no phone!
Long story short, spoke to JLBB who now tell me that they don't offer 'phone only', so they just cut us off
The phone number that has belonged to the house since 1961 has disappeared into the clouds
I phoned BT and about 2 hours later we had a phone line again ... just need to try to reclaim our old number now .... :o

Never try their broadband. They use a cheap router and you have to change the channels regularly to make it work. We always have drops in our internet upto an hour long, and when i ring their technical dept they say that it is expected to have at least 3 or 4 drops every 3 days, ive never had that with Sky or anyone else.

We spend over £130 a week with Waitrose shopping and buy clothes and electricals from John Lewis, and when we said we would cancel all those weekly orders for the sake of a £100 cancellation fee, the person said, i have the ability to remove the cancellation charge, but i wont do it, even though he knew they would loose £6-8000 a year in shopping. What a joke.

We are taking it further so i would let you know what his managers say about loosing £8000 a year for the brand to keep £100 in his department.

John Lewis Broadband is really Plusnet so all the staff you talk to don't work for JL but are Plusnet staff. They just answer the phones and provide the service using the JL name.

You don't ever have to "change channels" on an broadband connection.

<hey use a cheap router and you have to change the channels regularly to make it work>

That suggest a problem with interferance on your WiFI .

Hour drops suggests an OpenReach line problem . Have JL called out OR .
But be aware that any problem inside the home can be charged circ £130- £175 .
With channel changing and hour long drops i would suspect initially internal problem . Unless its been tested at the master socket.
Router Error Log should show VDSL drop on WAN settings .

Most providers have a line test app or similar which is usually easier. I agree testing the master socket is always a good way to eliminate the internal wiring.

Why? Why don't you just follow through with your threat to "cancel all those weekly orders for the sake of a £100 cancellation fee"? You'll very quickly recover the cost of the cancellation fee through cheaper grocery shopping. Or was it an empty threat?
