Quote from the T&C's
"Signing up for this tariff means you agree to...
...Having a smart meter installed by us, when we’re installing them in your area. Smart meters help you control your energy use, with meter accurate bills and provide automatic readings, so you don’t have to."
I didn't see any mention of this until I after I signed up with EDF and noticed your post. It's indeed in the terms and conditions but there was no mention elsewhere before signing up. I don't want a smart meter installed, so I might pull out of the switch.
Edit: On this EDF page, its says:
We've made it even easier to get smart. Customers choosing our Easy Online tariff will not only benefit from low-fixed prices and online account management, but they'll all be pre-registered for a smart meter.0 -
Pre-registered does not necessarily mean have to. The government toned down its Queens Speech to consumers will be "offered" i.e. you can refuse. An intesting read is this Which Article so you should be able to refuse if preregistered. If your meter has come to its natural end of life you are advised to change but don't have to (you can negotiate another traditional meter though may have to be smart meter in dumb mode)I didn't see any mention of this until I after I signed up with EDF and noticed your post. Just found on this EDF page:
You don’t have to have a smart meter installed if you don’t want to. But that means you’ll miss out on the benefits. If you’re still not convinced, or you need to reschedule your appointment, give us a call on 0800 015 8787.0 -
EDF Energy Easy Online Exclusive Sep 19 v2 is their current offering on the CEC for me this morning. Not quite the cheapest of the big 6, but not far off at £1 a month more than Npower. Over a tenner cheaper than E.ON's offering though.
It's tempting as I'm in the penalty free period of my current fix, but I'm still undecided. I'd been considering Bulb, despite the fact its a variable tariff with rumours of a rise in the autumn, because anything less than a 15% hike and they're still competitive.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day).
