I used the switch on the mse site because I have had nothing but trouble with santander.
I don't have a Halifax account, it Is a HSBC one that I switched to.
I didn't change any account details, it was all done by the switch process, but it just happened to change the day after my payment from simplyhealth.
I woukd not have gone over my overdraft if the money had cleared on my santander account
When I asked santander if my account has been closed because of the swift H process, they said no.
I intended to pay £35 off my barclays credit card. That is cut up because I just want to pay it off.
There is nothing shady going on on my part, I will pay off my overdraft to santander every month, and I have told HSBC that I don't want an overdraft on this new account.
Sorry you didn't like my response - the reference to Halifax was down to the fact this is someone else's thread and the opening post from that thread always appears at the top of each page. The word Halifax stood out when I skimmed past it - apologies for that.
Sorry also that the thrust of some of our responses (mine in particular) don't seem to be adding to the alleged core issue of 'missing payments'.
From my point of view, though, you are not giving up information in a logical way or in a way that is helpful. I had to drag out of you the fact that you've changed bank accounts (seemingly through the switch service) at the same time as all this happened and am surprised you didn't think that might be relevant in the beginning.
We then learn that your 'old' account has not been closed following the switch (so was it even a 'switch') and that you have an overdraft in that account.
Thanks for the response about the credit card - shame you had destroyed the plastic because it would have come in handy in Tesco. From what you say, though, a payment to Barclaycard does appear to have gone through because something caused your overdraft to be exceeded.
Now, given that you believed you were switching from Santander (with an overdraft) to HSBC (without one), that your 'details' changed as part of the switch, that the old account should close at the end of the switch and that there was no value in the old account to transfer over (regardless of the missing payments which would only have reduced your indebtedness to Santander) what was your strategy for accessing money at the end of the switch?
As far as I can see there wouldn't be any money for you to access - unless there was a switching bonus (mentioned by Eskbanker) that you were expecting to be credited from day 1.
Has Santander actually agreed to let you pay off your overdraft in monthly instalments and have you told your employer to pay your wages to HSBC instead of Santander? If not, you'd better do it quick sharp because Santander may just swallow them up to cover your overdraft - regardless of any alleged agreement to allow monthly payments.
Sorry, but it still doesn't add up.0 -
Oh God, don't say that is possible!.
I am getting paid tonight at Midnight.
I thought the switch process would sort out all the details with payroll.
I'll contact HSBC now, and ask their advice.
Oh, and no, the other payments didn't reach HSBC either.
Who should I contact about the switch process?
This is making me ill.
P. S thanks to all for your responses.0 -
P. P. S.
I know I shouldn't be moaning about personal stuff here like I did about being hungry etc, but my own mental health is affected by this as I haven't picked up my anti - depressants as I can't afford the £9 prescription until tomorrow. That's five days without them so far.
I can't afford to slip into a depression , I have to keep on top of all this.0 -
I've re-read everyone's comments, and I thought I was being sensible when I told HSBC that I didn't want an overdraft when I opened the account.
Now I realise I should have opted to have one to rid myself of santander.
I've gotten myself into a right pickle, haven't I?
And I STILL don't know where my payments went.
Im so !!!! with money!0 -
OK, so let's try and find a practical way forward (temporarily) whilst you work out what Santander has done with your incoming payments.
Are you still able to access your Santander account through Online banking - even though it should technically be closed? If you can, what exactly does it show you? If your wages do get swallowed up by your overdraft, how indebted will you then be to Santander?
You said you'd cut up your Barclaycard but you didn't say you'd closed the account, so why not get straight on to Barclaycard and ask for a re-issue based on your old card being damaged. That could be with you quite quickly and you may be able to use it defer the next few week's expenses until a) you get things sorted out and b) you get your employer to pay your April wages to HSBC.
If you can remember the CVV code and the account number you could do some online shopping with it even now to get food.
And, yes, perhaps you can get straight on to HSBC and maybe ask for a small overdraft to help out.
None of these solutions is ideal but they may help on a practical level and their overall effect is really only to transfer some of your Santander overdraft to a) your Barclaycard and/or b) an HSBC overdraft. The cost of this debt shuffling is unlikely to be any more than it would have been if you'd stayed with Santander.
PS In making the comments above I am assuming you won't get to see any of your missing payments (when they have been found) or wages this month and that they will just go to reduce your Santander overdraft.
PPS you've still not made it clear just what mechanism you were using to change accounts or commented on the possibility of a 'switching' reward from HSBC.0 -
Hi Everyone,
I wonder if you can help me?
I was told my the party paying this transaction that on Friday 22nd March 2019 that I would be receiving a same day transfer. This is from an organisation who have paid me before with no problems.
They emailed me a screenshot of the confirmed payment and the monies had not reached my account. I have contacted my bank who cannot find the payment.
What should I do?
Thanks

Ask the third party to get their bank to investigate.
Do the same with yours.0 -
We now have three topics in this thread - 1 resolved and now 2 not resolved. Please start a new thread with new queries or some forum users (with useful information to contribute) might just see the original thread title and not bother reading without realising that there is something different to resolve further down.
As for this latest query, as stated by zx81, the best person to start the ball rolling is the sender. I have had this problem once before sending money from my own HSBC account to my Barclays account. The money went from HSBC but never arrived at Barclays. HSBC staff told me it had left their system early the previous morning and asked me to wait until close of business for it to arrive. It didn't and another call to HSBC the next day revealed they had just fobbed me off because the payment had actually been intercepted by their fraud department for analysis. I spoke to the fraud guys and they released it.0
