PayPal refund for collection item - will get a defect?

I sold a collection only item, buy it now, but forgot to deselect the "require immediate payment for BIN" requirement.
Buyer is happy to pay cash on collection, so I just wanted to check with you knowlegable lot if I'll get a defect before refunding the paypal payment.

Unfortunately it is not a straight answer as different sellers have had different experiences.
It is likely that refunding the PayPal payment from PayPal and then immediately re marking it as paid manually may be OK, this seems to avoid a defect. People that have received a defect, and I've seen none recently, have only refunded the PayPal payment and then not marked it as paid for a while.
With eBay making it up as they go along and with all the glitches it is hard to say exactly what would happen.
However, the one thing not to do, and I'm sure you already know this, is to refund via eBay using any of the drop down reasons. Only refund straight from PayPal and you *should* be fine.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Could the seller refund as 'buyer changed mind' without issue? I've had this with people buying things and then asking me to cancel the transaction as they've had a change of heart.0 -

I got a defect for doing this as eBay decided that it meant I was out of stock. I had to phone up to [STRIKE]argue the hind leg off a donkey[/STRIKE]have it removed.0 -

That would be the worst thing as I alluded to previously. That would immediately flag the ebay bots to see an 'off ebay' sale (which of course it would be), and seller would get restricted or suspended. The moment there is any message through ebay about an item the bots are flagged, so cancelling it and reclaiming FVFs would be a slam dunk.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This is what used to happen if a reason was not chosen in ebay and just a straight refund made - I haven't seen them do it recently. How long ago was this out of interest?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This was May/June of this year. It was a similar situation, buyer paid by paypal for a collection item and then paid cash at the door.0 -

That's a worry, it looks like ebay have reverted to penalising again for refunding as they have done in the past.
I can't keep up with these changes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Posting on this thread as some of the posts here are making me twitchy about a expected cancellation request - especially Soolin's post#6.
Had a someone buy one of my items and pay (Paypal), but shortly after ask me a question - looks like they bought the wrong version, so I expect they'll be asking to cancel. Item hasn't been posted yet.
Am I to understand that if I use the eBay option to cancel the sale because of buyer change of mind, eBay will take this as me trying to do an off-eBay sale and possibly suspend me???0
