Grrrr
I own an iPhone. My wife owns an iPhone. The kids have an iPad. So, occasionally I would like to lie in bed and watch videos on my phone and cast them to our bedroom TV. However, as some of you know you can’t cast from Apple devices to TV’s without buying some extra hardware. So, in our wisdom we bought a Fire Tablet. Guess what! We can’t cast videos to our TV. So, question. If we now bought a generic Android Tablet not tied to Apple or Amazon are we going to be able to cast the videos to our bedroom TV?
Thanks all.

PV&W is more suitable? Surely a better location is Techie Stuff?0 -
Simple answer to this is that Amazon and Google don't really get along. Amazon released the fire stick about the same time as the chromecast. Amazon decided that they wouldn't support chromecast on their videos, so you can't cast them. Google took the higher ground on that one and still let Amazon use Youtube and Android.
Its similar to when Amazon stopped selling Google Nest products back in March because it was competition to their own smart home stuff.
This is the main reason my main TV has a chromecast and a fire stick plugged into it.0 -
It depends on the source of the videos. If they are from Amazon you will need an Amazon Firestick. If they are not from Amazon you will need a Chromecast plugged into the TV, any suitable Android tablet, and the video apps you want to use will need to support casting.
Surely you wont need either if your telly is equipped to receive signals direct from the phone/Tablet - I do this down the pub sometimes with much mirthDont rock the boat
Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
Wouldn't it have made more sense to buy a firsestick rather than an amazon tablet so it can be used independently of any tablet. Ultimately if your TV is not capable of receiving a casting signal on its own then no tablet will work without you adding a device to allow your tv to receive the signal.0

Basically, we ended up with this Fire HD 8 Tablet because it was half price in an Airport Lounge. It’s great for watching Netflix movies on itself. We have a Samsung Smart TV in our Bedroom. If we try to watch videos on the fire and cast them to the TV it won’t allow us. I’m working away at the moment so I can’t remember the exact error message etc.

Your Samsung Smart TV should have apps of its own eg. Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube etc. Click the Smart Hub button and choose the app you want and sign in.0
