Many thanks for the comments, if one person says they need to charge me £60 because of the travelling costs and the local man £50 minimum then i would assume the local man is ripping me off for travelling 1.2 miles.
He is not ripping you off. He is simply busy and doesn't need the hassle of yet another punter on the phone every time they !!!!.0 -

We have a gutter length that moves(it was cut a bit too short) in the heat, result is after a while one end leaks at the seal(always the same end).
5 min job to take apart clean up the debris, clip it all back together.
This is a garage gutter so set of steps, if it was high roof a new piece would be going in.
If it is just above a window can you pop your head out and have a look or feel it with your hands to see if it has just moved a bit in the hot weather?
It could be that if this was the first time it rained since they were cleaned the cleaning dislodged that bit of gutter.
How often are you paying for this cleaning, I have some gutters that have not been touched for well over 10 years and they still don't need cleaning0 -
May be worth checking adjoining sections. I had a drip from mine recently. Chap checked it and said the join was okay. After I asked him to check again, he told me it was the neighbour's gutter (terraced property) that was leaking into the honeycombed section at the base of the guttering and dripping out of mine. The solution (for my section) was to fill in the end of the section, probably with some sort of silicone sealant.
No more dripping gutter for me.0 -
£50 may sound a lot but it doesn't go far these days, the guy has to run a van, invest in tools and spend time on the job (small jobs like this can be relatively time consuming), pay tax, maybe VAT and liability insurance.
That said using sealant is a bodge IMHO and you are best fixing the root cause, either the guttering has popped out from moving in the heat or the seal has perished.
To do it yourself you either want a ladder with one of those arms to push it away from the wall or pop a block of wood in the guttering to prevent the ladder damaging it.
If the guttering hasn't popped out buy the right sized seal (couple of pounds) and have a friend hold the ladder whilst you swap the seal over, they can be tight and bid fiddly to undo but it's very straight forward.
If you aren't confident to do it either pay the guy who says he'll put in a new seal the £60 or find a local handyman on Facebook or from friends/neighbours.
Just ask who ever does it to tip a couple of buckets of water in the guttering after the job is done to make sure it is actually fixed. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0
