Leaking Guttering Rip-Off Prices?

During heavy rain a join in one part of the house guttering leaks from the joining, this is despite having my gutters cleaned one month ago.
I have a couple of quotes one person says they will change the seal for £60 to cover their 20 mile journey but the local provider wants a minimum of £50 for sealing with sealant which seems a bit high to me. The other quote from a national company was £279 including a 12 month guarantee:eek:.
If i knew what to do i would do it myself however, it is right above a window so can't get my ladder in very good and i don't like heights.
Anyone know of any good deals or advice!

If you are unwilling to do it yourself you are stuck with picking a trade. A handyman would possibly be cheaper.
It sounds like a pretty simple job. It may simply be a case of clipping to back together, or a new seal or the bodge of using sealant.
I say bodge but it would work pretty well and if doing it myself and it wasn't a clip issue i may be tempted to use sealant if I could not source a new seal (assuming that was the issue).
Without knowing for sure what the issue is though, i cannot really say what i would do. Being that you have them cleaned regularly my guess is that the cleaner has knocked it and it just needs clipping back in place. A two minute job once you are up there.YNWA

Despite having my car mot'ed and cleaning out the ashtray a month later the clutch went so no exactly how you feel…..? Price someone wants to risk there neck climbing a ladder that your to scared to what is it twenty foot from the ground it would only be a small graze if they fell? They should really do that for a few pounds and that should include cleaning the windows mowing the grass and painting the wall unfortunately its not the 1800,s these handyperson expect to be able to eat more than once a week and not have to sleep in the park bloody inconsiderate of them…0

How often do you have the gutters cleaned - and does the man go up a ladder? If it'll be done again later this year I'd wait until he's there and ask him to squirt some stuff at it "since you're up there"0

It is a really simple job but at height you need to be careful. The leak is probably because the joint on one side had popped out. It's probably as easy as popping it back in but depending on the brand you need strong thumbs! This might be one occasion where a man with stronger digits might find it easier annoyingly, I struggled a bit earlier this year. If the joining piece is !!!!!!ed a new one is really cheap. A handyman with a ladder could do it quite easily and may well be cheaper if you are unable to do it.0

Many thanks for the comments, if one person says they need to charge me £60 because of the travelling costs and the local man £50 minimum then i would assume the local man is ripping me off for travelling 1.2 miles.Enjoy everyday like it's your last!0

I know we joke about these things, but it can be a serious business.

It is quite long so maybe go to 9.10 and watch some of that if it hasn't started from there.0
