Future Classic Cars
Options
Wondering if there are any people on here that have looked at a range of vehicles with a view of purchasing them now as an investment and putting them in storage in the hope that the vehicle they have purchased will increase in value over time.
Be interested to know if anyone on this board has done this and what vehicles they may have or would consider buying as an investment.

Unless it's limited run, rare and expensive, and you keep it garaged, few cars will appreciate in value.
I think the remaining big petrol engines will be desirable once everything is electric, but they'll probably still not appreciate unless very expensive sports cars.0 -
Lots of cars have great potential / already expensive.
Ford Racing Puma
MK1 RS Focus
Early Fiesta ST's
Large Mercs especially AMG
Lotus Elise
Original Mini are still sensible Prices
Capri's are not sill money either
BMW M Cars are good bet, you just need to work out when they hit the bottom of their curve.
Trouble is...
Compare a Mint Morris Marina to a Mint MK1 Escort and you will see the risk.
In essence any performance petrol car could be a winner but you want Mint Original cars.
Personally I would look at what I want to own and go from there.0 -
I should add in my fleet
Mint 65K 2.8 Capri purchased in 2000 for £2200
Mint Capri 3000 GT XLR MK1 purchased in 2001 for £2000
1.6 Ford Capri given to me for free in 2005
1999 Rover Mini Cooper purchased for £1700.
Buy in great condition and look after it. The key to all of this is not paying for storage unless you have an RS Porsche as the storage costs will wipe out any gains.
Another to the list Landrover Defender, just sold one after 6 years for what we paid having put on 40,000 miles.
MK4 performance golfs seem to be on the up now.0 -
The cost of buying a possible future classic and keeping it in the best condition to maximize future value will probably outway any profit.
If I kept my old MK2 Astra GTE 16v that I paid £1000 for 20 years ago it might be worth £5K, but it would of rusted away by now.0 -

If you buy a good car only have classic car insurance and buy the right car plus FREE Storage it can be done. I appreciate there is no such thing as totally free storage but you know what I mean.0 -
I should add if you buy something you love and cherish it who cares what the value is.0

Budget wise I don't think I have a problem spending £10-15K for the right car(s).
Currently looking at BMW M5 (E39 Shape) and possibly a BMW M3 (E36 / E46 Shapes) mainly because BMWs is where my personal experience and passion is.
Agree storage is the biggest issue for me, as currently I would only be able to park a vehicle on my driveway (Which is something I don't want to do) although I have found a person who has offered me a storage container (that is large enough to store two cars for £1k/year) which I think is pretty reasonable - but still a lot of money, so still looking for other suitable storage places.Date of Update – 08/04/19
