Right, decided to pull my socks up and get in touch with a mortgage advisor. I found one yesterday through mortgagehero website

where did you find out about that site ?

Appears yet another site that takes consumers details and passes them on to brokers for a fee

mortgage hero recommended it. Is this not good then? Don't know what other choice I had to be honest, didn't receive the avalanche of recommendations I was expecting...

I would rather use a broker busy from recomendations and repeat business rather than one buying leads from random websites.

    Aha silvercar!
Hit the nail on the head there, If you read my first post I was after recommendations but no-one replied! Not sure if this is the result of the forum rules but there you go. So I did as suggested, went to mortgagehero AND stuck a pin in the yellowpages...

Advisers that are desperate buy leads. Do you want to get you advice from someone that is desperate for clients (and therefore income)?

I buy leads. I'm not desperate for clients or income.

If things are a bit quiet then I have no problem with buying a few leads in. Generally all done over the phone cases aswell which make life easier for me.

Look at it the other way dunston. If an adviser buys a lead, then they obviously have the capacity to deal with it, will want to help the client, and earn a return on the expenditure.

    Fair response back Leon.

I have never bought leads but I know those that have and those particular advisers I wouldnt want to get my advice from. Like any negative generalisation, there are going to be exceptions.

Also, my comments are based on being an IFA rather than a mortgage adviser and of course mortgage advice income is more transactional than an IFA getting trail and renewals with more frequent servicing. On the IFA side there really shouldnt be a need for it.
