Hi All,
Can anyone recommend a financial/mortgage advisor in the Portsmouth area?
Preferably one of the ones that Martin recommends that does not charge and is whole of market.
I don't think this is anywhere else on the site (if it is please move me) and maybe others could add to this thread that advisors they recommend in given areas?
Cheers

the site rules state that a broker asking someone to pm them is considered as touting. Had the OP contacted you privately without your request then that would have been OK.
Please take time to read the rules of the Forum Mortgagehero or you may find yourself being banned should the mods see you acting this way.
To the OP, I would be careful about doing business with anybody on this site, after all it is a public forum and Martin does not check out any of the advisors on here for quality or reputation.
The best place to find a good adviser is by asking friends and family. If they cannot suggest then http://www.unbiased.co.uk may help.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thanks for the heads up but I wasn't expecting to do business with people on here. I wanted a recommendation for a fee free advisor. I was hoping that people on here might recommend one. Otherwise I may as well open the yellow pages and stick a pin in...
Yup, Chichester is great.Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0 -
Mortgage Advisers should not tout for business on the boards or in PMs. There should be no posts or unsolicited PMs offering mortgage adviser services. Nor should advisers ever say ‘see my profile for who I work for’ or make any other such comment.
However if a user requests their service either via PM or forum post then I have no objection to that and the business generated. Yet if someone requests the service by a post on the board, the broker should simply post to say “I will PM you” rather than posting details there.Any mortgage adviser found to be flouting this ‘no touting’ rule will potentially lose their rights to post on the forum (PPR). This applies whether the adviser is using a signature or not.
Mortgage Advisers should not recommend other Advisers. To prevent accusations of reciprocal help or deals, mortgage brokers should not be recommending specific other brokers. If a poster is asking for recommendations, it is best left to non-brokers or they should be referred to the MSE article.Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -

Stick a pin in the yellow pages, in fact stick 3 or 4 in and ask them how they are paid and what if at all they charge and if they are truly independent.
You will find that those that have the title "independent financial adviser" are the only ones that are truly independent and almost without exception (unless it's a very specialised/ difficult mortgage to place) they will tell you they are paid commission from the vast majority of lenders that usually suffices their work otherwise they may charge a fee. For related mortgage products ie insurances the best of them work on both a fee or a commission basis. In any event your first visit to them or them to you will involve them completeing a fact find and giving you their written terms of buisness. and if your not happy with them at that point walk away theres no charge.0 -
Mortgage Mama, my thoughts exactly. All I was after was a recommendation. I shall keep my eye out for your message.
Retired ifa, many thanks, your words have given me the vocab I need to find someone.Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0 -
Knowing MM as I do, I know that she is not the kind of broker to knowingly give someone duff information or act improperly. Her offer will have been given with the "wants to help" attitude that I know she has.
However, not all people that use the internet are like minded and there will be people that will suggest other firms due to commission kick backs or for their own good. If your application was to go wrong or there seemed to be even a whiff of wrong doing, it would probably cause the person referred to have some grievance with the person who they were referred by and this is why it is not allowed I am guessing. Also there will be the other side to it, which is that Martin will not want brokers respecting the no touting rule but circumnavigate them by constantly suggesting their buddies as such. Martin does stress that you research any broker before using, I guess these kind of referrals could mean that people drop their guard so he will not want his site to be used as such.
As retired has said, without personal recommendations, it can be a difficult task and there are people trying to address that I am sure, however, MM has to accept that her intentions are well meant but shouldn't be allowed for the reasons given.
Now if anybody wants a good broker in ..... lol.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Right, decided to pull my socks up and get in touch with a mortgage advisor. I found one yesterday through mortgagehero website but my wife had also contacted one near me.
I have already booked a meeting with the one through mortgagehero so I am wondering if its bad form to meet more than one? I guess as they are both whole of market they will both come up with the same products that best fit my needs?
Is it the done thing to use both or should I stick with one? or would I get twice the service?

There is nothing wrong with asking for advice from more than one broker. AT the end of the day it is about you and your needs so you should take as much advice as you feel necessary.
You would never buy the first car you see without taking advice from more than one source so why should you do the same with a mortgage?
