    Your pensioner father sues the hire company if he is sure the faulty step caused his injury. Good luck trying to find a solicitor to take the claim on.

    The hire company may join you into proceedings as second defendant as you were in control of the vehicle at the time of the accident so be prepared for that.

    Other than that, the van got you to A to B notwithstanding the dodgy rear bumper so you’ve suffered no loss so don’t have a claim for anything.
