rented a van to europe, it was unsafe, now wot?

Through hertz. For european travel for a week, rented a transit van.

The bumper/step fell off due to a clearly improperly fixed previous accident. Someone was injured, items were damaged. Took it back at the end of rental and the location manager was aghast, assured me this never happened, assured me it wouldn't be re rented, assured me he would contact me in a couple of days with compensation or whatever.

I have all the pictures as evidence.

Two weeks later. Nothing. Now what do I do?

Cheers peeps.

  • Y'know I think what I'm getting at is, is my only resolution here to register a complaint with the ECRCS or some equally dodgy bunch of dudes literally owned by the people who I am complaining about. Because that is. not. ideal.

Your the driver and responsible for the condition of the vehicle, if it was unsafe you should not have driven it.

Let's cut to the chase. How much do you want?

How was someone injured and what was damaged? May make a difference to how you should proceed.

First step would seem to be recalling the chap you spoke to and asking what's going on......

You've made a formal complaint as per Hertz procedures, I take it? And in their acknowledgment giving timescales by which you can accept a response it says.....?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

The injured person claims for their injury (is it serious, or just a little bit of bruising?), and the damage to the items, through the hire company's insurance.

    End of.

you are an idiot. As I said the damage was concealed. Why bother replying?

    Everyone else... Hmm. OK.

I dont want anything as such. My pensioner father fell off the back of an improperly repaired rental van that was rented through a company, Hertz, who you would expect not to have to deal with that from.

I'm not asking you about value, I'm asking what should be my next move given hertz haven't followed up in the given time frame. And none of you know. OK fine. I'll use the weird regulatory bodies owned by said companies and then I guess move to the actual courts through a small claims. It seems people here are more interested in protecting companies than providing advice. odd.

Put your toys back in the pram (you won't need to hire a van for that) and re-read the answers you got. It's not a case of "no one knows", it's a case of you not getting the answer you want. Why not actually suggest what it is you want and people will say whether it's realistic and advise you on how to proceed if it is.

As for the pathetic "It seems people here are more interested in protecting companies", that is the standard childish response some people give to being told things they don't want to hear. Grow up.

Your initial post was more than a little vague. The bumper fell off. Someone got injured and someone's property was damaged.

I had visions of the bumper falling off as you were driving along and it hitting the car behind.

In such a case, I would be expecting that someone to be claiming compensation for their injuries and property damage. At no point did your original post indicate why you think you should be claiming compensation.

To be blunt, if you want useful answers, post questions that contain all the relevant information. People on here can be quite hostile, quite unnecessarily so, but if you don't post the relevant facts, they will resort to speculation.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
