Problems trying to switch from BT Fibre

Options
Hi,

I’m trying to switch from expensive BT Fibre deal before September 16th (after which I will be locked in) and despite MSF Broadband Unbundled tool giving me lots of alternative options, no alternative provider is actually able to provide fibre. The reason I have been given for this is that the ‘nodes at the local exchange are all full’ and that until other customers nearby leave Sky, Now, TalkTalk or Plusnet, there will be no space for new customers.

Can anyone advise me what I can do? I’m happy with the actual service BT are providing but it costs double what their current deal costs (and their competitors).

Thanks,

Claire

Have you tried haggling with BT over the price, using the deals from Sky etc. as a benchmark and bargaining chip? You don't have to tell BT that you can't get those deals!

Phone the number on your price rise email and tell them you want to leave .
See BT Price rise threads on here for deals given .
  • Thanks both for your responses. Yes I called BT and told them I was considering leaving but they only agreed to fix my call costs (which is the element which is increasing). Despite other issues i’ve had with my broadband they said they couldn’t lower cost of broadband package.

I could just leave (I have to give 30 days’ notice) and hope one of the other providers becomes available in that time.

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

What they probably mean is that there are no spare ports on your FTTC cabinet. If this is the case, it may be in the pipeline for an upgrade by Openreach (but could be sometime).

The cynic in me says that BT know this (although they shouldn't - Chinese Walls and all that) and may know that you can't go elsewhere.
