A rant abut recruitment process

The issue is your friends aren't doing an equivalent job. So yes they can move around more freely.
If you want to work in healthcare, these are the rules. It's unfortunate I appreciate but it is what it is.0 -
Anyone ele have experience of witing 2,3,4,5 month to start a job after being offered a role?? It is absurd.
Don't resign from your previous role until all the formalities have been completed - or if you are on a fixed term contract which has expired, be prepared to take a temporary job while you wait, if you are determined to work in a field which you think is so seriously deficient in terms of its recruitment process. The choice is yours.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Background checks for Civil Service jobs are required before a job offer is made. They did try shortcutting that part where I was a one time, but came unstuck when one new employee failed the checks (no idea why) and was marched off the premises immediately. CS will also put people onto a waiting list if there are more suitable applicants than current vacancies.
When I joined over 10 years ago it was still over 4 months between interview and job offer.0 -
I got my nhs job offer 2 hours later. All formalities completed within a month.
CS had a DBS but the additional checks were completed in parallel so not that long either.
I dont get why so desperate unless you're unemployed.0 -
I applied for a Civil Service Job at Gatwick Airport in 2013. Took 6 months from application to getting a start date. Part of the delay was the checks Gatwick did for people working airside. By the time I was given a start date, I no longer wanted the job. I guess this happens a lot. But public protection is paramount.0

Applied for a job on 31st October, interview on 18th December, job offer 18th December, formal offer landed early-February, started role on 11th May!0

Application May 9th; closed May 30th; email back and forth; position withdrawn August 6th.0

My current job is onboarding for part of the CS. Each application is different and therefore has a different timescale. I’ve had external candidates who have been turned around within a month, and candidates who are still waiting for checks to complete after 6 months.
The best advice I can give is to fill out every form as soon as you receive it. Give all the information that is asked for.0
