Decided to jump in for October instead but still using here for inspiration.

I decided to see how much in food we went through today which I thought was quite cheap meals. 4 adults £14.80. It’s a lot more than I thought
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
  • Declaring for the month at £331.11/£400.
Another frugal month for me. The garden is hardly productive now though and so I will have to start buying salady bits again.
Our meat freezer is also looking pitiful so I am transferring it into the main chest freezer and defrosting it ready for the festive meat and whatever else I buy later in the month.
See you on the October thread.
  • Final shops done for this month for me - £28.85 at Aldi and £2.67 at Lidl.

This leaves me with a total for the month of: £126.81/£125

Ended up £1.81 over budget which I am little disappointed about as I really wanted to come in on budget but as this is my first challenge I am happy.

I decided to look over my past grocery spends to show what a difference this challenge has made to my grocery budget:
    May: £260.49
    June: £252.44
    July: £187.49
    August: £209.10
    September: £126.81

This is a HUGE thing for me as I am working hard to save for my house deposit. I haven't changed too much - still eating 6 meals a day, buying organic meat & loads of veg. What has changed is no more top-up shops and taking stock of what is already in the house before I shop.

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to every single person on this thread. You have motivated and inspired me so much and I can't wait to continue on the October challenge! See you all there :)
Trying to make my way on my MSE adventure.. Debt free since June 2018:j

    December GC £32.58/£130
November GC £101.14/£135 :: another month under budget! :: another m
    Emergency Fund £104.77/£1000:(

A massive congratulations to you @luckofthe_irish, that is a huge reduction in your monthly food costs! :T I need to take a page from your book and really think harder about buying items and pushing myself to use up more stock.
    ----

€2.95 at Carrefour for a packet of dried chorizo.

7.63 at the main organic market for spaghetti squash, haricots verts, dinosaur kale, shallots, carrots, and a couple turnips.

€3.50 at the halal store for a tray of 30 eggs.

    TOTALS SO FAR:
    €526.78/€500.00
    7/12 NSD

I used 2 out of the 3 the sausages in this Nigel Slater recipe: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2007/jan/14/foodanddrink.recipes. I also have a vegetarian version on the go for OH as well.
  • £8.35 to add from spends today. Milk, bread, raspberries, custard and various othe lil bits I'd run out of.. (Made a note of items to re-stock up on properly)
Really pleased to see everyone doing so well this month, September is always an odd month for me.. So much re adjusting with back to school/college stuff.
Keeping myself motivated and attempting to plan what I need for next month!

  • Hi everyone
    well done to luckof the-Irish.
What an achievement in the past six months. :T
We all have our own goals whether it is to be debt free, saving for a house deposit or like myself just to be more self aware about how much I am spending and what I am spending it on.

Good luck everyone. Each small step impacts on our personal journeys.:)

Another one declaring for th month here. £350/£400.

Well chuffed with this. Thought I'd struggle to come in at £400 let alone £50 under including a cash and carry shop!
  • Hi everyone... I'm over target so will probably be waaay over by the end of the month. Im not sure where I've gone wrong as I eat mainly veggie and I don't think we're wasteful.

Hopefully being back will help me figure out where I'm going wrong x
  • A small top-up shop from Tesco, taking me up to £36.34/£70. I will probably do next weeks food shop on the Sunday or Monday, and still count it as September, because I'm way under budget still!

I'm really thrilled with how I've got on though! Normally, £30-£35 would be a weeks shopping for me, so to cut my budget by nearly 3/4, without feeling at all deprived, has felt great!

Whatever is left over from the £70 will go into my "fun fund".
Because it's fun to have money!
    £0/£70 August GC
    £68.35/£70 July GC
    January-June 2019 = £356.94/£420

That's seriously impressive. What have you been doing? Or not :) Well done.
