Clio Health Check
Thought I'de respond to free health check e-mail from car dealership
Booked Sept
Check tyres/brakes/window wipers/oil
As I'm approaching 2 years in this car.
What do mser's think -any harm in such check or would it have been advisable to wait until Jan 2019 service+mot

Sounds like a ploy to get you in the door to see what they can charge you for.
So easy to check all that yourself without any special skills and in fact should be checking that on every journey.0 -

I suspected this check will incur costs.
T.b.h I don't mind getting tyres+breaks checked ahead of early 2019 mot.
Only cause asI mentioned I'm approaching 2 years in the car.

Have you had the car serviced at all in your ownership? If not check what the interval is and when it's due.
Nothing wrong with having the car checked however I would suggest not agreeing to any work being done if you are in any way suspicious of if it actually needs doing or if it is a reasonable price. Whilst the garage could suggest your brake discs and pads are worn and recommend that they are replaced it could be that there is still plenty of wear left in them and they would be OK for another year.0 -

I purchased 2yr service pack with car it was serviced Jan 2018
I know from my MOT in Jan one or two tyres are worn
I'de rather know before winter if a tyre or two needs replaced.
After last winters extreme weather I don't mind breaks getting checked either
Any work will only be done if I agree on the day if it's a lot I,ll prioritise over maybe Sept +Oct'Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -

Clio Health Check went well.
Only wipers to replace next Saturday.
Quite happy -tryres past for a few more months yet.
No mention of any brake concerns -which I thought could have been a problem since 2017 winter.
Maybe I'll stay home 2018 winter -probably not if I can help it.
Looking forward to early 2019 service+m.o.t.

Don't take this the wrong way but......
You should know how to check your tyres, wipers and oil level. These things are simple to do but have a big impact if they are wrong.
Brakes are a bit more difficult to check but still easily done for most people.
Have a look on YouTube along with your manual.0 -

Not as simple with m.s. though certainly not impossible.
I've learned not to kneel or avoid bending as much as possible and use my right hand rather than left hand -some adjustments since late 2012.
Oil I have checked sometimes
Tyres I haven't checked myself
Brakes I wont be checking myself -dealership checks this during m.o.t. And visual check via annual service.
Even window wipers if I had noticed they were worn enough to replace, I'de have asked Halfords to. Replace them which they are very good at.
No offence taken , I prefer when possible to get dealership checks.
This health check wasn't a necessity as such, just thought a pre winter visual check wouldn't be any harm.
And my tires will run for a few more months which is re assuring.
Thanks mse'rs until Jan 2019- service+m.o.tReplenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -

Well at least three of those things, checking the tyres, the oil and wipers, should be done regularly by you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

The OP has MS and mobility problems. I would suggest to them that checking the tyres could be done by looking from a standing postion to see if they are down to the wear indicators between the treads. The wipers should be easy to check but obviously they may have to go to halfords to get them changed. The oil may or may not be an easy check depending on the OP.
To be honest, I don't bother with the checks until its coming up to MOT, but im only doing 4K per year.0
