Recommend which car to buy from following criteria:
Hi,
A mate of mine is after a petrol executive brand family sized car or a estate from september 2009 (59) to August 2014 that has true real combined mpg of around 40 or more mpg.
- Preferably timing/cambelt is chain.
- Automatic or Semi Auto
- Used parts easily available and not too expensive.
- Practical and good rear legroom/headroom and good sized boot.
- Reliable
What are the cheapest picks available or what prices am I looking at for this in the used car market? Budget is flexible.

Executive, auto, petrol and 40 plus mpg. There won't be many with good leg room with a 6 foot driver.0

Skoda Superb 1.8TSI - Executive, roomy, available as an automatic, will do about 40mpg, reliable with cheap parts. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Diesel will give better economy if a option. I think 50-60mpg.

Usually the bmw 3 series and audi a4's and merc c classes have tight legroom at the rear right?
Also are those petrol engines can do a honest combined 40mpg on honest john's real mpg section?0 -

Diesels cant be considered unless it meets Euro 6 emissions regulations. All new cars sold from sep 15 have to meet this regulation.
By 2020 the govt plan to roll out clean air zones in all cities in UK meaning if a diesel car doesn't meet euro 6 emissions then you have to pay a congestion charge each time you enter a city
This website will state whether diesels car meets Euro 6 regs or not:

Find one on a forecourt and sit in the back and see.
I guess thats for you to cross check. It depends on your driving style and personal driving routes.
I'm pitching ideas based on using the search function on Autotrader and my own personal experience.
A stranger on the internet isnt going to warrant the MPG of the car of your choice.0
