I got a call back from enstroga. The autumn attraction tariff is unavailable and they were offering me the autumn attraction premium tariff in the email I received which did not see as competitive. It looks like the cheap energy club comparison needs to be updated.

The lady did say that they had been getting loads of calls about it and they were working to get the comparison sites updated.

It did seem that calling them didn't work as I got cut off after holding for a while. Asking for a call back via email worked really well though.
  • AVOID!

They upped my bill from £40/month to £70, without a clear explanation as to why. -And when I say 'without a clear explanation' - I mean hours of phone calls, confusing bills online, calls while looking at bills, parts of excel spreadsheets with no titled columns being sent to me, absolute headache'

When I left them to use another supplier, they said 'sorry to see you go, explained no further payments will be taken.' I then got the same email again a few days later, 'sorry to see you go.. then at the very bottom they added a sentence in saying, 'a final bill of £200 will be taken from your account within 10 days.'

I wrote back asking for an explanation twice, called - no answer. So, as there was no explanation, I cancelled my Direct Debit ties with them.

They then opened a new Direct Debit without my permission for the FInal bill of £200 -(no idea even though I have requested details, what this £200 is for) My bank have asked for this money back, awaiting confirmation. Absolute disgrace, I hope I get to take them to court the money grabbing b***rds. I would rather pay £400 to look the person face to face who cant run this company in the slightest in court. Because he or she is a total crook.

Hi - welcome to the forum. Before anyone can comment, we need a few facts. Your monthly DD payment is nothing to do with your usage charges: it is nothing more than money paid on account from which usage charges are deducted. Have you had any bills based on actual/customer meter readings? If you have a Final Bill, you need to check that the meter readings used agree with those used by your new supplier to open your account. If they are the same, then I would suggest that your DD was not enough to cover future charges.

  • I totally agree, this company is the worst I have ever dealt with,no replies no bills no customer service.

No I see why they lost a contract to supply in other countries

Do not use them if you enjoy hassle free supply - I will be leaving at the very first opportunity

    -Not a single one.

-Did not receive a Final Bill either. Just recieved a DD Mandate without my permission for £200, which my bank has now refunded me. Havent even had a final bill after requesting a final bill.

The overall message i am saying is : DONT BOTHER! :)

They only bill once a year, presumably on the anniversary of joining This seems to be the cause of a lot of complaints - however it is there in the t &cs if any of us ever read them. Have to admit i overlooked it.

Not a big problem if you're happy to keep track of readings and ensure your payments are on track. Its the cheapest (or was), and that's the main thing.
  • I was with Enstroga for the better part of 2 years and they were fine for us. However, a few caveats:

We joined when they were still very small and to be fair to them they were fine to deal with as they didn't have too many customers, but their online offering was non-existent for a long time and even now it's OK but not amazing.

I never really needed to speak to them much so customer service wasn't too big an issue over that time. We recently moved and when I called the (English) guy on the other end of the phone was very good (you occasionally get people with accents from mainland Europe as they are an Italian firm but they too have always been pretty easy to deal with, once you get through). The cap I spoke to explained that recently they had been lauded for their prices in some national mailshot or other as a result had a deluge of people wanting to switch and they just weren't geared up for it and they've been desperately recruiting ever since to try and scale up which is where the problems have been.

That said, I would have stayed with them as they are still the cheapest, BUT out energy needs are high: We have electrically heated wet underfloor heating and electric hot water, cooking, everything in the new house. Switching to LPG or oil would be too expensive and the ruddy gas main actually runs past the village but isn't connected to it so that's out. Enstroga told me they simply would not supply more than 12,500 KWh per year, implying exceeding that would lead to us being charge a much higher rate. Since I'm estimating our usage at 25,000 KWh/year (pessimistically - I don't think it will be quite that high but I want to budget a monthly amount that won't leave me hanging when the colder months arrive), Enstroga were no use. Interestingly the guy said that a year ago the limit was 36,000, so I'm guessing that maybe as their customer base has expanded they are only able to buy a certain amount in the market and therefore have to ration accordingly which makes me a bit suspicious.

As a result, I have switched to Bulb as they are green and are reputed to have good customer service. Granted today (xmas eve) they only had email and chat services but after 20 mins the chat agent answered me to say there was no supply limit and that was that - I signed up to get away from the hideous n-power standard rate which we're burning at a rate of 2400 KWh/month right now (hell's bells but that bill is going to kick me square in the valuables).

I would say that if your needs aren't too silly like mine and you don't need to talk to customer services much then Enstroga are a good, cheap choice. Just go in with your eyes open.
  • Stay well away they are a nightmare company!
