Cheap Energy Club
This site's Cheap Energy Club tells me that my current deal is ending with EDF. I am currently paying £124 per month for duel fuel. Among my options is a new EDF 2019 tariff at £143. However I have just signed up for this tariff with EDF directly using my current usage to guide the price and my contract states that my bill is to remain at £124 per year. How can I trust the Cheap Energy Club estimates? If I had signed up via the club I would have been paying more for my energy, albeit I would have got £25 cashback. Even with the cashback I would still have been paying more for my selected tariff. I have used the Energy Club in the past to save money but on this occasion i feel it would have misled me. Has anyone else noticed a similar thing?

If it is the same tariff, then the price is the same regardless of the route you take to sign up. By not using CEC, you have lost out on cashback.
You need to understand the difference between price and payments.
CEC is telling you what your payments would be based on the usage figures you provided.
EDF are using their own data about your usage.
Both figures are estimates and could change.
What is the current balance on your EDF account?0 -
Key is not estimates but actual tariff prices .
All prices you have posted OP are estimates not actual total amounts .
Tariff prices times amount used divided by 12 gives estimated monthly DD .0 -
I had the same problem until I realised that the MSE Cheap Energy Club is not showing EDF Easy Online Renewal tariffs. Rather confusingly it is showing the Easy Online Exclusive tariff, which is higher.
I did the same comparison with the Citizens Advice comparison tool and it confirmed the renewal quote from EDF was correct and cheaper than that shown on the MSE website.0 -
Just signed up to MSE Cheap Energy Club for E.on, was already with E.on but they could not supply a cheaper deal so used MSE with £25 cash back after 3 months what a crazy world, changing from v1 to v16 through existing E.on account would have cost me an extra £250 annually .There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0

It’s probably best to use the comparison sites as a guide rather than a definitive tool, IMHO;
…for instance, I’ve just discovered that Eversmart’s ‘Welcome Home’ tariff that is listed as a variable tariff on MSE (and Uswitch) is actually a fixed 12-month zero fee tariff when you contact Eversmart directly or use their website,… and it’s the cheapest fixed tariff of its kind by some margin. Well, it is for my usage anyway…E=5234Kwh, G=15700Kwh.
I’ve seen Eversmart’s ‘Welcome Home’ tariff for a while now but I’ve always dismissed it because it’s listed as a variable tariff on MSE and Uswitch. However, Citizens Advice website does have it listed as a fixed tariff.0 -
Nick C....my usage figures are the same on my CNC account and on my EDF account so I do understand how the estimates work. Both the £143 and £124 price estimates are based on the same usage figures, ie, on my current usage. I updated my CNC account for this very reason.
However you make a good point about my credit with EDF and having checked it is £129. However even dividing that by 12 would still not make up the price difference.
I get what you are saying about the price actually being the same however I signed up for the tariff and that I have missed out on the cashback but my initial point is still valid....why the discrepancy on price if based on the same usage figures which is still not correct even when taking my credit with EDF into account.0 -
Yorkshire Energy’s latest Green Puffin fixed tariff is still nowhere to be seen on MSE’s comparison site,…have they fallen out?
Updating all the comparison sites with new tariff info can sometimes take a day or so but Yorks.Energy's Green Puffin tariff has been on Uswitch and Citizens Advice comparison sites for a while now.0 -

Seveal people in the past have mentioned that MSE does not cover all suppliers/tariffs.
There was a recent thread I saw that tried to collate the missing suppliers/tariffs - I'll see if I can find it again.0 -
