Some HP laptop keyboards are way beyond a DIY repair.

I must be one of the lucky ones then

Me too...piece of cake to do I've found. Especially the recent models.

MY OH HP laptop did this and we bought the stickers but didn't last well. Hers is an easy DIY replacement. My HP needs all the rear screws removing, the top taking off and is a nightmare to seperate the keyboard from the top section. I ended up buying a used full top piece inc keyboard in the end. I have to say this is the first time I've had the problem - previous Toshiba, Dell and Acer have been fine.
  • Length of ownership does not dictate the use.

For all we know, you could be typing 5000 words everyday. Then it is fair wear and tear.

Not really there’s only a few models that you can’t change them easily, they don’t even have a seperate cover for hard drive or ram replacement. They also don’t have a single LED.
  • There are some manufacturers I have seen who advertise their keyboards to be made on the 'stick of rock' principle where the letters are extruded and sunk into each key position, just like lettering on a stick of rock.

Because these letters go down through the entire key, and are not simply silk screen printed, the letter can never wear off.

I can't remember which manufacturer it was when I saw an online video of their build quality but it's worth finding out if you have had this problem.

I personally have never had any lettering rubbing off any laptop or desktop I've ever had and my old laptop must be about 8 years old and still in daily use.
