Motonovo Hire Purchase Voluntary Termination - Manheim Damage Estimate
Hi All,
First time posting on here, hoping for some advice if possible.
So, a bit of background:
In early 2015 I bought an ‘09 BMW 1 Series through Motonovo on Hire Purchase. Last month (23/07/18) I called Motonovo and advised them that I wanted to voluntarily terminate my agreement with them, as I had paid well over the 50% that I was required to.
MotoNovo informed me that within 2 days I would hear from Manheim regarding collection of the vehicle.
One week went by and I hadn’t heard anything, so I rang MotoNovo back (01/08/18), and the gentleman I spoke to advised me that the original call to them that I had made had not been processed properly, but he would now process this correctly, and I would hear from Manheim within 2 days.
Several days later I receive an email stating that Manheim had tried to contact me to arrange collection, but had been unable to do so. (I had had no calls from them.)
I arranged collection for this morning (17/08/2018).
In the meantime, I had cancelled my direct debit payment to Motonovo, because as far as I was concerned my contract with them had been terminated on 23/07/18, or at the very least 01/08/18, however I received a text from them on 14/08/18 advising that they had been unable to take a payment on 12/08/18 and as such were charging me an extra £5 on top of the payment they tried to take.
When Manheim came to inspect and collect the car, the gentleman who inspected it remarked on how clean the car was, then proceeded to hand me a inspection report listing £1000+ of damage to the car.
Now, the car is nearly 10 years old, and the damage listed ranges from a tear in one of the front seats smaller than a 5p, scuffs to the alloys, and the odd small scratch - nothing that I, or any other reasonable person, would consider to be anything beyond general wear and tear for a 10 year old car that’s done 99,000 miles.
When the gentleman from Manheim handed me the report, he advised me not to sign the report (which I had no intention of doing anyway), to take the matter up with Motonovo, and that he is used to collecting lease cars that are 2-3 years old max.
So, my questions, (after all that, sorry
) are:
- Am I liable for the charge that Motonovo have implied that I am. i.e The ‘next months’ fianc! payment after I have voluntarily terminated my agreement.
- Am I liable for over £1,000 of wear and tear that IF fixed would bring the car to better than showroom condition, given the fact that the car is in almost the same condition as I received it 3+ years ago.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Mannheim have collected the car, and taken it without me signing anything for them at this time.
If anyone requires any more information, feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance.

Have a search in here, as I have read a virtually identical story on here before, and can't remember the outcome, it should have been resolved by now.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

I don't want to worry you, but Manheim is know as the worst company for damage charges.0

Check the damage relative to the BVRLA guidelines and also check if the costs are reasonable for the damage (if its within scope).
I think you can appeal to the Financial Ombudsman? if the charges are excessive.0 -
This is the problem when getting a used car on finance then subsequently VTing the contract. The vehicle inspectors are going to list all damage to the vehicle whether it was present prior to you getting it or not.
Also, it's always best to formally terminate via letter, that way there's no debate as to when the termination takes place and whether you're liable for any further payments. I would speak to Motonovo to dispute the later payment and subsequent charge.0 -
Hello,
Similar situation - after ‘owning’ the car for the agreed 4 years (PCP) I gassed the car back today and received a bill of £900. The bulk of which is down to scuffs and scrapes which are unavoidable (and in some cases - invisible!).
Has anyone had any luck in reducing / contesting the bill and can provide any advice on the matter?
Thanks I’m advance!0 -
We leased a car from Hitachi, via Nationwide Vehicle Leasing. It was collected last beginning of month, 10 days after lease expired. I won't cancel DD in case they are slow taking a pro rata payment. It looks like they won't.
The car was collected by agents, Manheim, who act on behalf of Hitachi. The agent found one scratch less than 25mm, £75. We filled in a disagreement e-form. I contacted Hitachi who told me not to worry as damage up to £150 was ignored as a goodwill gesture.
I think you need to deal with Motonovo to resolve this issue. We're any of these "defects" the n the car when you got it, if so do you have evidence?Mortgage free

The condition on delivery should be documented, so it's really just a question of what's happened to it in the time since. "For 10yo" is irrelevant. It's the deterioration during the term of the contract.0 -
the collection agent is paid a % of the damage surcharge. PCP and fair wear and tear is difficult for a very used car such as yours they seem to compare it to acceptable wear on a fairly new car. Of course the two are very different.0

Good evening all, firstly I would like to apologise if this thread is a repeat but I really need some advice.
Ok so I had a Ford fiesta on a Pcp was great! No tax low insurance as it was an eco boost. Found out I was expecting twins and asked to be put into a bigger car, they had a mobility car with mileage of 18000 sitting on the forecourt, wasn't keen but I thought it was the best they could do. So I've gone from a 65 plate to a 2012 plate, in less than a year of having the fiesta. Now I paid £205 a month for the fiesta I'm now paying £198 For the focus, including tax as it's a 1.6 and higher insurance so let's round it up to around £300 a month I'm paying for the focus. I actually feel like I've been done over, and Ford won't put me back into a fiesta as they say I have too much negative equity in the car. I contacted motonova and they didn't really help, I've never missed a payment but really want to be done with this car and get a smaller car. I've been told to go back to them in February which to be honest I will have to tax the car for another 6 months. Then I decided to investigate and came across doing a voluntary termination. I've had this car since August 2017 I know only just over a year but I'm don't want this car anymore it's costing me too much. I should if just stuck with what I had. Funny the 2 guys that sold me both cars have now left. Please help me.:(0 -
you have bought the wrong car for your needs, your fault no one elses. You should have to foot the bill for your mistake.
TBH your post is nonsense.0
