Help - hundreds of dog poos in shared garden, and pee in the close

Even though you don't have a factor, there will be a process for getting shared repairs etc taken care of. It'll be detailed in the title deeds or it'll be under the standard arrangement which needs majority agreement. Cleaning of common areas comes under this.
Majority agreement is likely to be accelerated if environmental health get involved. You could see if any of the neighbours overlooking your garden might complain? Our trash problem got taken care of very quickly indeed when the building behind complained that way. All the owners got very stern letters, and if it gets ignored council will clean up and bill them.
You may well have to move but if your LL is a relative they might take this information from you. They're never going to keep a decent tenant with this going on so they really need to get it sorted.0 -
Don't use bleach on the area by your door, you need something biologically based. Bio washing powder would do for starters but you can also get sprays that you can use on urine smells. Dog places do it, but I got a load a while back from somewhere that sells it for care homes etc.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Bloody great!! !!!128514;!!!128514; I would also get some poo bags pin them up too with a note too. I know you shouldn't have to buy them it wouldn't give them any sort of poor bloody excess not to pick it up!!! It really annoys me with lazy people who don't pick it up!! Once somehow I had lost my bundle of bags that were in pocket I used a crispa bag and a stick. On another time when I have my last bag to another dog Walker thinking ok mine had pooed for only for my spaniel to do one again luckily on dried grass so just rolled it up and thank you the poo bin was close!!! So glad my dogs are on raw diet little poos !!!1 /10 nsd 😀0 -
Reading this is very familiar. Same happened to a friend of mine in block of flats. Had a large patch of grass which the dogs pooped all over and the path too so getting in the building was a minefield!
Basically the management company/landlords/tenants all met to discuss it and neither dog owner admitted it despite everyone who lived there knowing it was both of them. It appears to have been a stale mate of well she doesn't clean up after her dogs so why should I?
Anyways they decided that they would have to get in professionals to clean up the poo, adding the charge to the maintenance costs of their leases each month. I think it was supposed to be an extra £70 something a piece. The poo disappeared and stayed away quite quickly!0 -
Thanks for the replies everyone, and I'll certainly look into those alternatives to bleach - know it's not too healthy and I don't want to risk the health of the dogs (as it's not their fault
).
I emailed the dog warden again at the weekend - they've passed it on to someone who I think is from Environmental Health, they emailed quite quickly saying they're sending a letter to all tenants (inc me), not stating who the complainant is but threatening fines. Whether it'll make a difference we'll see. Since removing my doormat and spraying lemon juice I haven't found anymore puddles of pee outside my door so that's nice.
I actually bought poo bags the other day, odd one for a non-dog owner (though I have a hamster, they are a bit big for him). Not planning on using them personally (I've never had a dog so never developed the tolerance for picking up poo if that makes sense!) but might be tempted to pin them up as a hint.
Interestingly (well if bin placement is interesting) I started keeping my wheely bins outside the main close door instead of the garden and noticed only a few days later most of the other tenants seem to have now copied me. So the street is a bit cluttered with wheely bins all of a sudden! It's really not obstructing as it's a wide pavement/quite a quiet no through road... saying that I don't know/suspect it may not be even legal for me (and now them) to do that but I explained to the dog warden that I've no sanitary place to store them.
I'm of the mindset to be persistent for now as I don't have cash/time to move til likely closer to October anyway, but I'm also occasionally checking Rightmove for sanity's sake.0 -

This will only work if the dog is really small. Have you tried getting a large or even medium dog through a letterbox?0 -
If the flats are let out ( in Scotland) and they are not on the Landlord Register then the Council should investigate for you. All property let out in Scotland should be registered on the Landlord Register this is specifically so that Landlords can be contacted to deal with anti social behaviour. Get in touch with the Council and tell them it needs to be sorted. They can find out who the Landlords are. The Landlords will then have to pay the registration fee required. A spray of white vinegar should keep dogs away but not obnoxiuos neighbours. Good luck.0

A friend of mine was reported to environmental health by a neighbour for having a few dog poos in his garden all day- yes , all day.
He was working and his pregnant daughter came to keep the 2 dogs company and let them out in the garden. He did not want her picking up the poo as she was pregnant but he picked them up when he came home from work.
Environmental health told him there was an old law on Scotland that you could not have more than three dog poos in your garden. at one time,
One of his dogs tended to deposit in several places when going, rather than all in one spot. So only one deposit but made up of two or three small amounts.
Strangely, the environmental officer told him to take the dogs over the road to a green patch to go to the toilet. That was apparently okay but not in your garden.0 -
Hi all - uhh so a wee(/poo?) update! Heard a dog go down the other day so went to snap a wee pic/vid like the window filming saddo neighbour I have become (well y'know, so I could check with landlord who the owner was (as I couldn't see them outside)) ... minutes later my door is chapped - annoyed neighbour asking why I was filming their dog! They calmed down a bit when I explained I only wanted to know who the owners of dogs sent alone/fouling were so I could speak to them/resolve it calmly/that I really don't want any conflict with neighbours (and also because I was frankly pretty anxious at the confrontation and it showed
), she says it's not her dog/she always picks up and feels like people are accusing her of being responsible, that she understands my frustration/agrees ... she seemed genuine but I've now today heard she was a culprit for dog fouling in the past so... oh and another thing is this confrontation happened the same day letters arrived at everyone's doors from the dog warden about dog poo in the garden - so might as well have planted a big sign on my door saying "DOG POO GRASS LIVES HERE!".
So far no further retaliation, and landlords from the other flats have told my landlord that one of the residents has cleaned the mess up (which is sadly untrue, still loads out there).0 -
How do the dogs get out of the main door into the garden? Can you keep that door shut so the owners have to take their dogs out.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0
