CAB for advice how to proceed. I personally would speak to the landlord. Pee on the mat does sound very strange!

People who are as disrespectful as that are unlikely to change. I'm sure there is a section in their tenancy agreement that forbids anti social behaviour so I'd tell the landlord but realistically not expect it to change. I'd look to move. It's not right that you should have to but it's probably the only way.

Some people are pure scum. OP I hope you get this sorted (I fear not) but good luck!

Ask the landlord to have the factor arrange a clean up - inside and out. The owners of the flats will pay for this. That might motivate them to be cleaner (at the very least it'll be easier to avoid for awhile) or landlords to get cleaner tenants.

I would also try environmental health.

How soon could you afford to move out? Planning that might help you retain some sanity.

The dog pee on your doormat is deliberate.
A vindictive dog? Try diluted disinfectant or white vinegar on the mat and around your door, the dogs might avoid it.

Most flats with shared areas have a managing agent. Have you contacted them?

Another thought. Could you get covers for your shoes? Make sure they're sturdy enough to last the trip but that would keep the mess off you. And if you happen to track it inside that's too bad - obviously your neighbours wouldn't mind...

I wonder how they avoid it when taking out their trash?

I have to say my thought was that it may not be dog pee - if she is seen as being the new neighbour complaining about things (and IMHO they have a perfect right to complain) and reporting them to the landlord a vindictive NEIGHBOUR may well have peed on her mat
  • Thanks for all the replies everyone! I am indeed in Scotland. I've checked the landlord's registry but it doesn't seem to have details for every flat in the building. My landlord says she's informed the landlords of all flats about the issue, so that did make me wonder if the pee outside my door was deliberate as it happened quite soon after! I removed the mat (was so smelly!), cleaned with bleach and I've sprayed a lemon/cayenne pepper mix which I've heard deters dogs. Unfortunately the building doesn't appear to have a factor at all... I think I asked landlord about this and there wasn't sufficient agreement between the other landlords to get one arranged. Might have that wrong, I've never owned a place myself. If only we had a factor, the place might be in better condition.

My next step is to contact Environmental Health - I'm going to contact them during the week when their offices are open. I do feel though that, as some have stated, that if these people are happy to live like this that it won't change anything and might just result in more retaliation. Really hard to understand how people can live like this. I feel bad for the dogs, as I wonder if they even get proper walks.

I don't think I'd want to risk putting the poos outside their door, although I'm *reasonably* sure which door to put them in front of, I don't know what these people might do in response.

Overall I probably will need to move eventually... which is a shame, it was meant to be a long term situ/maybe even with me buying the place eventually, but I'm really unhappy here. I've had a problem with a water leak into my flat about a month after I moved too. Overall it just seems like a badly run/badly maintained building.

So sorry to hear about your problems- disgusting!
    Just a few suggestions:
Keep a diary of how often you see the dogs coming down
    Continue to video different dogs
Also video the poo tiles in your garden, to show how yuckily impossible it is to avoid it.

You will probably need this for the meeting with environmental officers and ask for a mediation with the culprits so they are aware of your feelings
