Did it blow up in the end?0

You can't seriously think you can get compo for things that might have happened (i.e. your children injured, had they actually been present)?
You might have been burned and seriously injured yourself, do you think you can claim for that?
If BMW handed out new cars for 2.5 year old ones, there would be a lot of unexplained car fires happening...No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
When tweeting companies, it's best to @ mention them. They don't trawl hashtags, generally unless it is something that is trending.
You aren't going to get a brand new car from them. Nothing wrong with pushing for goodwill gestures on top of the necessary settlement, but you have to stick with what is achievable, otherwise BMW will just not see you as being realistic.0 -
They don't have to provide you with a new car, and why on Earth would you want another if the last one just set on fire?
This illustrates a rather interesting point. OP seems to be more bothered about getting the latest registration plate, rather than an explaination for what caused the fire and whether or not this model can be considered safe.0 -
I'm amazed BMW are admitting liability, the fire must have been caused by a design or manufacturing defect.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Also note that insurance companies generally only cover the second hand value of goods and clothes.0

Ask if the compensatory amount will cover the difference to get a new car. Or even pre reg car.
Then use the £2k to cover the short fall. Which I suspect covers the personal contents well and above. Unless work boots are gold coated0 -
My friend's car caught fire, the insurance wouldn!!!8217;t pay out as they said it only applied to people setting fire to it, not it setting fire to itself.0

See several recent news reports, Watchdog programme, etc.
They took their time, denying things until after a certain inquest result, but eventually over 300,000 recalls in this country
In South Korea there will be over 100,000 recalls, and the government has recently announced it wants to ban cars that havent been checked yet. Also some apartment blocks and car parks have already been banning the cars.0 -
As I live in a Cave (firmly in the 1970s) this one passed me by. You'd think BMW would simply say "don't drive it until it is checked" and then deny all liability...I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
