  • Ok thanks. I'll get on it tomorrow.
  • OK thanks, I'll put a letter together tomorrow when I've read through your link. I understand what you mean about the planning a journey. What I meant was that I can plan a journey but I couldn't carry it out bcause I can't go out on my own, but they wouldn't take that into account would they? Would I send my letter to the address on the letter I have received or is there another address for an MR?

Definitely send the letter, but ring them first to register the mandatory reconsideration.
It's not uncommon for letters requesting a MR not to be registered as such, or until the claimant calls because they've heard nothing.

So it's best to ring to register the MR, and tell them that you'll be sending in further evidence, then send the letter (and anything else further/medical evidence that you may have or can get that wasn't submitted first time round).

If they know further evidence is coming, when registering the MR, they mark the registration to that effect, so the reviewing case manager knows not to look at your case for at least 28 days, to allow for the evidence to arrive. (if they ignored this and did the MR without waiting then, when this is brought to attention, the MR will be looked at again, taking the evidence into account this time)
  • I don't really have any evidence, just my word that I can't walk 20 metres. My downstairs toilet is less than 10 metres away from where I sit during the day and I have trouble walking to that! The assessor did not ask me to walk (I went to the assessment in my wheelchair) just to stand, which I did but only for a very short time (I'm not sure how long it was).

I disagree with this. Ringing them to request the MR first can lead to them going ahead with the MR and not waiting for the letter with any other evidence the OP may have. This has been known to happen, even with them adding a note to the computer that a letter with evidence will follow.

There's no timescales for decisions, it depends on backlog in your area. You can ring PIP and ask for a copy of the assessment report to be sent to you, this will give you some idea what the decision will be as they mostly go with that report. Good luck.

I do hope thats the case as my daughters report is very accurate and by my reckoning she scored 28 on care and 12 on mobility as she can not plan a trip.

It's very rare that they go against the report. Good luck to your daughter. Both of my PIP decisions and my daughters went with the recommendations in the report.
  • I sent a letter from my MP and Dr to back up my MR application and was awarded higher rate mobility. I get my first full payment on Friday. So pleased that I didn't have to go to Tribunal!
